Earlier this year, we heard we’d be getting a bit of a different take on TMNT action, as a new game based on the acclaimed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin graphic novel was in the works. For those unfamiliar, TMNT: The Last Ronin takes place in a post-apocalyptic New York where a lone surviving turtle (I won’t spoil which one) attempts to get revenge for the death of his brothers. It was promised this adaptation would strike a “darker tone,” with gameplay being compared to the God of War series.
Well, today during the latest THQ Nordic Digital Showcase, we got a first teaser trailer for TMNT: The Last Ronin -- heavy on the tease. Don’t expect any gameplay, but we did get a couple key pieces of info. First off, we know The Last Ronin is being developed by Black Forest Games, makers of the recent Destroy All Humans! remakes. Those games were arguably limited by their dated source material, but they were technically very solid, so hopefully the same holds true with The Last Ronin. We also get a first piece of concept art, teasing what the game will look like. Check out the teaser for yourself, below.
Here’s a bit more detail about the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin…
“Who is the Last Ronin? In a future, battle-ravaged New York City, a lone surviving Turtle embarks on a seemingly hopeless mission seeking justice for the family he lost. What terrible events destroyed his family and left New York a crumbling, post-apocalyptic nightmare? All will be revealed in this climactic Turtle tale that sees longtime friends becoming enemies and new allies emerging in the most unexpected places. Can the surviving Turtle triumph? From the minds of the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and based on the best-selling comic book event by Eastman, Waltz, Bishop, Delgado, and the Escorza Brothers: the official video game adaptation of TMNT: The Last Ronin.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5. A release window has yet to be announced. What do you think? Excited for the project?
