Developer HoYoverse (formerly known as miHoYo) announced the release of the Genshin Impact 4.0 update across all platforms. Titled 'As Light Rain Falls Without Reason', this patch adds the Fontaine area to the game; more specifically, these areas will be available to players: Court of Fontaine Region, Beryl Region, and Belleau Region.
To get there, they'll need to complete the Archon Quest Prologue: Act III "Song of the Dragon and Freedom", which unlocks a Teleport Waypoint in the Realm of Farakhkert in Sumeru. This Waypoints can be used to head over to Fontaine, and ou'll also receive the Primogem reward for this Teleport Waypoint when it unlocks automatically.
Thanks to the so-called Fontaine's Blessing, players will be able to dive underwater to explore long-lost areas and uncover mysteries. During their time in Fontaine, players will also receive Hydro Sigils that can be thrown into the Fountain of Lucine (outside the Opera Epiclese) to increase its level and obtain various rewards.
The Genshin Impact 4.0 patch also adds three playable characters: Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. Lyney is a 5-star Pyro equipped with a bow weapon, the Elemental Skill "Bewildering Lights", and the Elemental Burst "Wondrous Trick: Miracle Parade". Lynette is a 4-star Anemo equipped with a sword weapon, the Elemental Skill "Enigmatic Feint", and the Elemental Burst "Magic Trick: Astonishing Shift". Freminet is a 4-star Cryo equipped with a claymore weapon, the Elemental Skill "Pressurized Flow", and the Elemental Burst "Shadowhunter's Ambush".
Likewise, three new domains have been introduced: the Domain of Forgery: Echoes of Deep Tides (requires Adventure Rank 16 or higher); the Domain of Blessing: Denouement of Sin (requires Adventure Rank 22 or higher); and the Domain of Mastery: Pale Forgotten Glory (requires Adventure Rank 27 or higher).
Other additions include two new bosses with 'unique attacks and movement', new weapons, recipes, and more.
The Genshin Impact 4.0 update delivers two major technical additions as well. The first one is Global Illumination, now available automatically on PlayStation 4/5 and as a toggleable graphics setting on PC (as long as you have more than 4GB of VRAM). The second is gyroscope support, which is now available on PlayStation 4/5 and PC if you own a DualShock 4 or a DualSense controller. For the full patch notes, check out the official blog.
Genshin Impact will be featured at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, so fans may want to tune in order to check out HoYoverse's latest announcement. In other Genshin Impact news, studio head Liu Wei recently said the developers were saddened when the game was likened to a Zelda clone ahead of release.
