Last week Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games officially unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III via a quick trailer that teased a lot of things – the return of Vladimir Marakov, the infamous “No Russian” mission, and more. What we didn’t get was a lot of uncut gameplay. Thankfully, Activision just served up a meaty chunk of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III during today’s Geoff-Keighly-produced Gamescom Opening Night Live show.
The new footage runs nearly 9 minutes and shows off a large chunk of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s opening mission. We see our protagonists emerge from the ocean and deploy grappling hooks in order to infiltrate the fortress-like Zordaya Prison complex. The footage is dark and moody, showing off some solid lighting work and plenty of night-vision action. Of course, as is usually the case with cinematic CoD missions, everything’s pretty much on rails, but the action looks pretty absorbing. It all culminates in our crew coming to a specific cell, which I’m guessing contains Marakov, although the footage doesn’t confirm that. You can check out the new Modern Warfare III footage for yourself, below.
Need to know more about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III? Here are some details revealed about the game last week, including the game’s new “Open Combat” campaigns and take on Zombies…
“Campaign will feature both traditional CoD levels and new “Open Combat Missions,” which Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games promise will offer greater player choice. For instance, you can choose to go in guns blazing or take a more stealthy approach. It seems like these missions will probably take place on parts of Warzone 2.0 maps.
On the subject of multiplayer, as rumored, we’ll be getting remastered versions of all of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 maps (Afghan, Derail, Estate, Favela, Karachi, Highrise, Invasion, Quarry, Rundown, Rust, Scrapyard, Skid Row, Sub Base, Terminal, Underpass, and Wasteland) at launch, but that’s not all. Activision is also promising three new large-scale maps for Ground War and Invasion and one particularly large map for the returning War mode. At least a dozen new MP maps will be released over the course of MWIII’s live seasons.
And yes, Zombies is also making a return, with longtime developer Treyarch once again in the driver’s seat. This time around, you can expect a new Dark Aether storyline, and open-world survival-style gameplay on the largest Zombies map to date.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is launching on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5 on November 10.
