Today, Denuvo parent company Irdeto announced that its Switch Emulation Protection software is available on the Nintendo Developer Portal (NDP) as an officially licensed middleware.
Irdeto proudly boasts to be the first security company added to the Nintendo Developer Portal. It also touts its Emulation Protection software as 'revolutionary technology in the fight against piracy'.
Doug Lowther, CEO of Irdeto, said in a statement:
As gamers, we know first-hand how piracy negatively affects the gaming industry. We’re thrilled to be part of the Nintendo Developers Portal so that we can provide the latest technologies to help fight this issue for Nintendo Switch players and developers. We witness an increasing need to protect against emulation on PC from game launch, our solution is a must have for publishers to monetize the games fairly on this platform and also not impact PC game sales.
The Nintendo Switch Emulation Protection software was first unveiled one year ago, almost to the day. However, two days later, it was revealed that Nintendo was not directly involved with the endeavor, leading some to believe it would be abandoned. Today's news proves the exact opposite. Of course, it remains to be seen which game developers and publishers will opt to integrate Denuvo's new technology into their games.
Denuvo also just announced an Unreal Engine protection tool that purports to make modding more difficult. Neither of these announcements is likely to sit well with gamers, despite Denuvo's apparent desire to clean its reputation with an upcoming review build comparison program.
