Earlier this week, those eagerly anticipating the release of Starfield managed to get a first look at the first 40 minutes or so of the game thanks to someone who got hold of an early copy of the game. Having later filmed himself reviewing the game, it was only a matter of time before he would face the consequences for his actions.
As reported on the Starfield subreddit, the leaker was arrested yesterday, August 24th, for possession of marijuana and for theft of property between $ 2,500 and $ 10,000. In his videos and social media posts, the leaker essentially admitted to having stolen goods to sell them from the warehouse he worked at, which included multiple copies of the highly anticipated game by Bethesda. He may have become an internet celebrity overnight in the gaming community for his funny antics, which included an apology to Todd Howard, but the price to pay for fame was steep indeed.
With the leaker having been arrested and the game being so close to release, the possibility of more major Starfield leaks is quite low. Still, from the official footage that's been released so far, it seems like fans will be in for a treat, as even the game's opening looks considerably better in the launch build than in last year's, as shown by a short comparison video.
Starfield officially launches on September 6th on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. Those with early access to the game can start playing it next week, on September 1st.
