Alleged Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake CPU Prices Show A 15% Hike Over 13th Gen CPUs

Published:

Intel's 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Desktop CPUs allegedly feature an average 15% price hike over the 13th Gen CPUs, as reported by Momomo_US.

Intel's 14th-Gen Raptor Lake CPU Could Be 15% More Expensive On Average Versus 13th-Gen CPUs

Yesterday, we reported how Intel's 14th Gen Raptor Lake Desktop CPUs started being listed by retailers. Now, Momomo_US has posted what seems to be the alleged prices of these next-gen chips which are expected to launch in October this year.

Starting with the prices, the Intel Core i9-14900K and Core i9-14900KF are said to cost $695 US & 660 US, respectively. This marks a 14% and 16% price hike over the Core i9-13900K and Core i9-13900KF. The Core i7-14700K and Core i7-14700KF are said to be priced at $485 US & $470 US, respectively. That's an increase of 14% & 15% over the Core i5-13700K and Core i5-13700KF. We also have the Core i5-14600K and Core i5-14600KF which are priced at $380 US & $345 US. These chips should be priced 15% and 13% higher than their predecessors, the Core i5-13600K & Core i5-13600KF.

Intel CPU Price Comparison:

12th Gen CPUPrices (RCP)13th Gen CPUPrices (RCP)14th Gen CPUPrices (RCP)14 Gen Increase (vs 13th)
Core i9-12900K$658 USCore i9-13900K$599 USCore i9-14900K$694 US+15.8%
Core i9-12700K$459 USCore i7-13700K$424 USCore i7-14700K$484 US+14.1%
Core i5-12600K$328 USCore i5-13600K$329 USCore i5-14600K$379 US+15.1%
Core i9-12900KF$629 USCore i9-13900KF$579 USCore i9-14900KF$659 US+13.7%
Core i7-12700KF$432 USCore i7-13700KF$409 USCore i7-14700KF$379 US+14.6%
Core i5-12600KF$299 USCore i5-13600KF$304 USCore i5-14600KF$344 US+13.1%

Now a 15% price hike on average is kind of unwelcoming since we have already seen the performance of these chips and they are only 3% faster on average. The only chip that might make sense to get a price bump should be the Core i7-14700K since it features a new SKU configuration but even that should be priced similarly to its predecessor if Intel wants to remain competitive with AMD. This price hike (alleged) won't work in the favor of the 14th Gen CPUs and people might just end up buying the existing 13th Gen and 12th Gen chips which are discounted well enough already and will get further price drops once the new generation launches.

Whether these prices are just preliminary ones or the ones we would actually see during launch is something only time will tell so please take these with a grain of salt until a confirmation comes from Intel itself.

Intel Core i9-14900K CPU Specifications

Starting with the flagship, we have the Intel Core i9-14900K CPU which will feature 16 cores & 32 threads in an 8+16 configuration. The CPU will feature up to 36 MB of Smart Cache and a base TDP of 125W (253W PL2). It will feature clock speeds of 3.2 GHz at base & up to 6.0 GHz with a Thermal Velocity Boost. This will be a +200 MHz frequency jump over the Core i9-13900K and the same as the Core i9-13900KS.

Intel Core i7-14700K CPU Specifications

For the Core i7-14700K, Intel will be utilizing its 8+12 core configuration which offers 20 cores and 28 threads. This will be a nice upgrade over the existing Core i7-13700K which offers an 8+8 core configuration, allowing for a nice boost to multi-threading performance thanks to those extra E-Cores. The CPU will offer 33 MB of smart cache (vs 30 MB) and feature clock speeds of 3.4 GHz at base and up to 5.6 GHz with TBMT3. That's also a +200 MHz boost over the 13700K & we can see performance uplifts of around 5-10% from this particular SKU.

Intel Core i5-14600K CPU Specifications

Lastly, we have the Intel Core i5-14600K which unfortunately isn't using an 8+8 configuration as the rumors had told but rather a 6+8 which is the same as the Core i5-13600K. The cache and TDP will remain the same but the clock speeds will see a +200 MHz to 5.3 GHz, offering up to a 5% boost in performance over its predecessor.

So just as a recap, here's everything we can expect from Intel's 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Desktop CPUs:

  • Same Architecture as Raptor Lake (Raptor Cove P-Cores + Gracemont E-Cores)
  • Same Process Node as Raptor Lake (Intel 7 aka 10nm++)
  • Higher Clock Speeds Beyond 6.0 GHz
  • Support For Faster DDR5 Memory DIMMs
  • Much Higher Power Consumption (Close To 300W)
  • Compatibility With Existing LGA 1700 / 1800 Socket Motherboards

The Intel Raptor Lake-S Refresh Desktop CPU lineup will be supported on the existing LGA 1700 socketed motherboards within the 600 and 700-series lineup and will launch in October 2023.
