Amazon Game Studios is today announcing New World: Rise of the Angry Earth, the first expansion for the MMORPG launched in September 2021 to strong early success. New World: Rise of the Angry Earth will be available on October 3rd for $29.99; new players can purchase the New World: Elysian Edition bundle, priced at $69.99.
Its main features include the long-requested mounts, an increase in level cap (now going up to level 65), a new gear rarity, an endgame Expedition, a Heartrune ability, and more. The expansion also adds the one-handed Flail weapon, which can be wielded with or without a shield and combines melee, defense, and arcane magic capabilities to offer a support role while still being able to deal damage. The zone known as First Light has been transformed, too, as you can read below.
In Rise of the Angry Earth, the southeastern tip of Aeternum, formerly known as First Light, has fallen. Once a welcoming place for newcomers to Aeternum, the fields have been ravaged by the fury of Artemis and the Angry Earth. No one is certain what has become of the people and villages that once populated the area, and a deadly barrier has kept all but the most intrepid from attempting to find out. This abundance of earthly powers has awakened the mighty Beast Lords, a new possible adversary facing the people of Aeternum, but with them also comes a boon - the secret to taming and riding animals.
Mounts available in New World: Rise of the Angry Earth include horses, lions, and dire wolves. They can also be customized, as players can set a name for their mount and dye them.
Amazon Game Studios also said that the next Season, the third since the developer introduced the Seasonal model earlier this year, will arrive at the same time as New World: Rise of the Angry Earth, bringing a new Season Journey, Activity Card, Challenges, events, rewards, and more. The developer said details on the availability of both the expansion and the third Season on the Public Test Realm (PTR) are forthcoming.
At a recent press event organized by Amazon to discuss the expansion, I asked whether New World would finally get official controller support. The reply was that it's being worked on and should land on live servers this year, though likely after the release of Rise of the Angry Earth.
The developers also said the feedback from the first raid-like experience (the Sandworm) was positive, and they're looking to possibly build on that to create proper PvE raids, as seen in other MMORPGs. However, there's no ETA yet for when this content will be ready.
