MSI has unveiled its brand new GeForce RTX 40 "SLIM" lineup of GPUs, featuring a wide range of SKUs including the flagship RTX 4090 & RTX 4080.
MSI Moves Towards Making GeForce RTX 40 GPUs More Slimmer, Will Cover The Entire Lineup
Rumors for "SLIM" variants by the company have been revolving for a while now, and MSI has adopted an unexpected approach here by unveiling several models under the new SLIM series branding. The company has released a total of 20 different NVIDIA GPUs, including the GeForce RTX 4090 as well. The new variants come in various configurations, white and black color options, and overclocked & non-overclocked models to choose from.
Now, the main question is, what is new with the "GAMING SLIM" models? Well, the answer lies within the branding itself. You see, in modern days, AIB partners are looking to make their GPUs more "beefier" in thickness in an attempt to improve thermal dissipation and enhance the aesthetics to some extent. However, such GPUs do come with problems, such as GPU sagging and increased weight, which is often a concern for an average consumer. MSI here has intended to eradicate the problem by introducing models with "less" thickness compared to other variants in the market.
To further justify our statement, MSI's GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, under the new lineup, features a 5.1 cm thickness and 30.7×12.5 cm. Comparing this with the SUPRIM X variant, known to be a thick one, there is a reduction of almost 30% in thickness, which is a considerable number considering both models feature the same onboard GPU. The "GAMING SLIM" variant also weighs lighter, at just 1.09 kg, almost half the weight of the SUPRIM X model. Moreover, MSI has also debuted new white models with the "GAMING SLIM" lineup. Hence, users will have plenty of options to choose from.
Making a GPU slim certainly doesn't mean that thermal performance will be compromised, as with MSI's case, their "GAMING SLIM" variants will feature a triple-fan configuration with Torx Fan 5.0 onboard, which are known to be able to maintain temperatures in high workloads. With up to 8 copper heat pipes, one shouldn't worry about temperatures since MSI has undoubtedly done the homework before introducing the slimmer models.
While MSI hasn't disclosed the pricing of its GeForce RTX 40 SLIM GPUs yet, they have hit retail at stores such as B&H Photo, with the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GAMING X SLIM WHITE 16 GB model starting at $509.99. This is a slight premium over the MSRP which costs $499 US. Overall, it is great to see MSI adopting a unique approach with the Ada Lovelace lineup, and it is a step towards providing users with compactness and ease of building their own PCs.
