Intel's next-generation LGA 1851 socket motherboards and CPUs might be a year away but Noctua coolers already support them.
Intel's LGA 1851 Socket With Next-Gen CPUs Will Require Updated Cooler Mounting Mechanism & Noctua Is Ready
The latest Noctua coolers such as the NH-U12A have been spotted in Japan's Akiba marketplace & surprisingly, they are listing support for the next-gen Intel LGA 1851 socket. This specific cooler has arrived at the Tsukumo PC shop which is one of the biggest hardware stores in the country. Pricing is set to 15,980 Yen or around $110 US (taxes included). This is in line with the US pricing of $119.95 US.
The Noctua NH-U12A CPU cooler is the standard tower-type affair that supports dual 120mm fan configurations and is compatible with all modern CPU sockets and platforms. The cooler comes in both brown and black (Chromax.black) flavors and features the NF-A12x25/NF-F12 fans. A tube of NH-T1 thermal compound is also included in the package. This is an especially good cooler for the majority of PC builders since it delivers great cooling performance while being super silent.
Noctua is already at the forefront of cooler compatibility with future-generation platforms. During Computex 2023. Jakob Dellinger pointed out that they already had cooler compatibility in the works for AMD's next-generation Threadripper platforms and now, we can see that the company is going to offer Intel LGA 1851 socket compatibility a year ahead of its launch in retail.
Don't be mistaken by the Intel LGA 1851 socket coolers coming this early. Usually, the socket layout and dimensions are passed over to cooling manufacturers much ahead of the actual launch so they are able to design their coolers according to specs. This is why we have seen so many leaks on Intel LGA 1851 socket since those design documents and blueprints are already out in the wild. The LGA 1851 socket has the following dimensions:
- Socket V1 (LGA 1851): 35x37.5mm / 6.83-7.49mm IHS to MB / 0.800mm Pin Pitch
- Socket V (LGA 1700): 35x37.5mm / 6.73-7.40mm IHS to MB / 0.800mm Pin Pitch
But the CPU lineup is still at least a year away. We know that Intel LGA 1851 socket will be adopted by 800-series motherboards and feature support for Arrow Lake-S Desktop CPUs but those are expected in 2H 2024.
The good thing is that cooling manufacturers will not only be bundling the Intel LGA 1851 CPU socket mounting with their latest CPU coolers but also provide them as part of separately purchasable mounting kits. These kits will either be shipped free of cost or can be bought from the cooler manufacturer for a price that's usually within $10-$20 US.
