Starfield DLSS 3.5 Mod Now Available On PC, Upscaling Outshines Native Resolution

Starfield DLSS 3.5 Mod Now Available On PC, Upscaling Outshines Native Resolution 1

NVIDIA's DLSS 3.5 mod is now available for Starfield on PC and offers a big improvement over the native image quality.

NVIDIA's Image Enhancing & Frame-Boosting DLSS 3.5 Tech Is Now Available In Starfield Thanks To PC Modders

Just two days after the NVIDIA DLSS 2 and Intel XeSS plugins were released as mods by PureDark, we now have support for DLSS 3.5 within the game which is great for NVIDIA GPU owners. NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 technology is currently supported within the game and offers a nice visual boost thanks to the latest AI model that enhances the image over the native resolution, providing sharper & clearer visuals.

We already saw NVIDIA's DLSS 2 provide some spectacular image quality within Starfield on PC & now, we get another alternative over the AMD's FSR 2 which is the only upscaling option besides CAS that's officially a part of the game. So the process of enabling DLSS 3.5 within Starfield involves a few simple steps which have been listed by MxBenchmarkPC:

How to install NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution Mod for Starfield: https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/m...

  1. Download the StarfieldUpscaler archive.
  2. Extract the archive into the Starfield folder.
  3. Download the UpscalerBasePlugin archive: https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/5...
  4. Extract the PDPerfplugin.dll into mods/UpscalerBasePlugin folder.
  5. Download the DLSS 3.5 file: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/...
  6. Extract the nvngx_dlss.dll into mods/UpscalerBasePlugin folder.
  7. Launch the game and press END in the game to open the menu for the upscaler, and you can select DLSS.
  8. You need to turn on FSR2 in the game's settings, cuz this mod replaces FSR 2.2 with DLSS/XeSS.
  9. There's no quality levels anymore, you simply change the render scaling ratio in the game's settings (67% = Quality mode, 50% = Performance mode).
  10. Play the game with DLSS 3.5.

Now it should be mentioned that DLSS 3.5 has various features and the new AI upscaling model is just one of them. The technology also supports frame generation and ray reconstruction but the latter has to be enabled on the engine side to be fully utilized. So coming to the image quality, we compiled a few screenshots for you that show the difference between Native, FSR 2 (100%), DLSS 3.5 (Performance), and DLSS 3.5 (Quality) modes. We have to acknowledge that AMD's FSR 2 also does a brilliant job in enhancing the image quality over native but DLSS 3.5 just stands out a bit ahead.

In the first screenshots, we noticed that the overall image quality with DLSS 3.5 Quality mode was the best followed by FSR 2. The DLSS performance mode was similar to native but minus the visual shimmering which was apparent on the FSR 2 and native rendering modes.

Screenshots #2 (Native):

In the interior cockpit of your main ship, you can note that the dials and menus look much more crisp and readable versus the native render. The buildings in the distant also look better.

Screenshots #3 (Native):

Once again, when looking at object and material quality, DLSS 3.5 and FSR 2 both appear to deliver the best results. You can also note that the floor itself looks much nicer on the quality presets versus native.

Screenshot #4 DLSS 3.5 Q):

And last but not least, the exterior body of our spaceship looks great once again thanks to DLSS 3.5 and FSR 2 upscaling technologies. Performance mode does offer better performance and looks just as close as the native resolution but I would personally stick with the FSR 2 & DLSS 3.5 Quality presets unless you are on older hardware where the Performance modes can provide you with a playable framerate.
