Intel's Next-Gen Core i9-14900K 6 GHz CPU Benchmarked: Up To 9% Faster Than 13900K In Single-Core Tests 1

The latest benchmarks of Intel's next-gen Core i9-14900K Desktop CPU have leaked and show a nice performance boost over the 13900K.

Intel Core i9-14900K CPU Shows Up To 9% Faster Performance Than Core i9-13900K In Leaked CPU-z Benchmark

The Intel Core i9-14900K Desktop CPU is going to be the fastest chip within the 14th Gen stack. It will feature similar specifications as the existing Core i9-13900K but will be tuned for higher clocks and power limits, allowing for a performance boost that is well within the expected range of any refreshed chip because that's what the 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh family is at the end of the day.

Starting with the specs, the Intel Core i9-14900K CPU will feature 16 cores and 32 threads in an 8+16 configuration. The CPU will feature up to 36 MB of Smart Cache and a base TDP of 125W (253W PL2). It will feature clock speeds of 3.2 GHz at base & up to 6.0 GHz with a Thermal Velocity Boost. This will be a +200 MHz frequency jump over the Core i9-13900K and the same as the Core i9-13900KS. The CPU was recently spotted in retail with prices of $695 US which is a +15.8% hike over its predecessor but we shouldn't consider this the "Final" retail price yet.

In terms of performance, the Intel Core i9-14900K Desktop CPU benchmarks come from @wxnod which shows us the chip operating at 6 GHz out of the box so the same clock speeds as the Core i9-13900KS. The chip is marked as an "Engineering Sample" so the final performance might vary a little bit but should be close. The CPU scores 978 points in single-core & 18,117.5 points in multi-core tests which put it ahead of all desktop CPUs released to date. This is indeed going to be the fastest single and multi-core chip around when it hits shelves but all of this performance comes at a major cost.

Following is how the chip stacks up against other desktop CPUs (results from our own testing):

While the Intel Core i9-14900K Desktop CPU might end up being the fastest chip around, it will also be very power-hungry and a very hot chip to tame. The Core i9-13900K & 13900KS are some of the most power-hungry chips that can sip anywhere from 250-300W power and run at up to 90-100C with full load applied.

These are some of the tradeoffs you would have to make if you are going with Intel since the AMD camp offers more efficient operation while delivering stellar performance. The most interesting comparison will be between the X3D parts in gaming since that's definitely something that Intel's going to market the single-core increase benefits for. In any case, the Core i9-14900K and the rest of the two "Unlocked" SKUs will be announced later this month at the Innovation event.
