After several rumors, Electronic Arts and Codemasters have finally announced EA Sports WRC. As per the latest leak shared by billbill-kun, the off-road racing simulation game will be released on November 3rd for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via EA App, Epic Store, and Steam. Early access will begin on October 31st for those who pre-order the game; they'll also get the VIP Rally Pass for 5 in-game seasons and three livery and apparel packs for Toyota, Hyundai, and Ford. EA Sports WRC is priced at $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on consoles.
Ross Gowing, Senior Creative Director at Codemasters, said in a statement:
EA SPORTS WRC is the purest form of motorsport where every stage is a fight against the clock, the terrain, and yourself. This is the rally game we’ve always wanted to make, combining our studio’s deep knowledge and expertise with the power of the official WRC license representing the pinnacle of rally motorsport. The game’s new engine has enabled us to push rally to the edge of what’s deemed possible, and the additional features, including Builder and Moments, give players even more ways to interact with the sport they love.
As mentioned in the headline, the game is powered by Unreal Engine technology instead of Codemasters' EGO Engine, allowing for longer and more detailed stages than previously possible. However, it features DiRT Rally's signature simulation physics underneath.
According to the developers, the so-called Dynamic Handling System provides the most realistic off-road experience to date. Players can choose a professional driver set-up to replicate the experience real-life drivers encounter every race week; on the other hand, newcomers will have the opportunity to adjust the handling. The new Builder mode allows fans to craft their own rally car by selecting the chassis, body shells, and mechanical parts before customizing the interior and exterior and finishing with the livery editor.
EA SPORTS WRC includes 18 (one coming post-launch) official FIA World Rally Championship locations and over 600km of unforgiving asphalt, gravel, and snow stages. The game also features 10 current WRC, WRC2, and Junior WRC vehicles and 68 of the most iconic rally cars spanning 60 years of the sport. The multiplayer mode supports up to 32 players across all platforms thanks to cross-play, and there's also a companion app called EA Racenet where Clubs serve as community-built hubs offering custom multi-surface tournaments with rallying at any location and time of year.
