MSI Rolls Out BIOS Update To Fix “Unsupported CPU” Issue On Intel 600/700 Motherboards

MSI has officially released a permanent fix for the widespread "Unsupported CPU" BSOD issue, occurring on Intel 600/700 series motherboards.

For those unaware, MSI motherboards were experiencing a wave of frequent BSODS popups, which was an issue with the latest CPU microcode that Intel provided to motherboard vendors.

The "Unsupported CPU" issue was reported on a range of Intel 600 and 700 series motherboards from MSI and while the company initially asked users to roll back to the previous Windows 11 update or not update the PC at all, there's a more permanent fix available now with the latest BIOS release which will include the newest Intel microcode which we reported yesterday over here.

MSI has suggested that the problem is limited to Intel's Core i9 13th Gen (Raptor Lake) CPUs and specific Windows versions & updates, which we will mention below. The new BIOS update will eradicate all the problems revolving around the "UNSUPPORTED CPU" popup for the system affected by the BSODS issue.

Regarding some of our users receiving an error message of “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR” upon Blue Screen of Death with MSI’s Intel 700 and 600 Series Motherboards. MSI and Intel have been working hard these several weeks to come up with a solution together and have found the root cause of the BSOD issue which is regarding the firmware setting of Intel Hybrid Architecture. It is determined that the BSOD will only affecting Intel’s 13th Gen Core i9 paired with the following versions of the Windows operating system (OS).

MSI has pledged that BIOS updates will roll out this week for its 600 and 700 series motherboards, with all updated versions expected to be released by the end of September. We advise consumers on the MSI Intel platform to switch to the newer BIOS version once it is released since it would diminish the possibilities of BSODS, even if you haven't encountered it in the first place.
