The testing done by Compusemble is indeed appreciable here, since the individual has gone into depths and revealed that SSDs running Starfield are facing "traversal stuttering", meaning that the SSD is getting fed a whole lot more information than it is supposed to, leading to a potential "bottleneck",
To further describe the issue, Compusemble compiled the benchmarks obtained at "New Atlantis", which is a very popular and graphically demanding setting in the game. The results showed that the onboard SSD reached a 100% utilization rate, due to which the GPU couldn't perform adequately, dropping down to a shocking "0% usage" in some cases. Moreover, the interesting fact is that the user was running Crucial T700 Gen5 SSD, which boasts one of the fastest speeds out there in the market, hence the blame can't come on the storage itself here.
Figuring out the core issue isn't an easy task here, however, Compusemble discloses that this is yet another case of lack of "SSD optimization" due to which the block size range is getting compromised. In layman's terms, SSD requires a certain block size to squeeze out the maximum performance and in this case, the block size is too low, due to which the SSD even could surpass the 555MB/s mark/.
We aren't sure whether this is the primary reason for Starfield stuttering incidents, but you can verify it via any benchmarking app that tells the SSD utilization rate. Even if your PC faces this problem, unfortunately, you can't do anything to fix this since this is more of an issue from the developer's side. We hope that Bethesda quickly acknowledges the "SSD bottleneck" since it may have been contributing to stuttering issues amongst several consumers, without getting discovered.
