NVIDIA PR
The new prices for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs are indeed true as there are various variants across retailers that are now available for $549 US. We have the ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Dual, MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ventus OC, the Gigabyte WindForce RTX 4070, and the ZOTAC GeForce RTX 4070 Twin Edge OC, all of which are available with the new prices.
The $549 US pricing for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPUs marks a -9 % price drop which is decent but not significant considering the card faces some heated competition from the recently released AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card which starts at $499 US.

There's no doubt that this generation of GPUs has received the most price cuts and the earliest of all prior generations. We have seen cards getting discounted within a week of their launch and GPU variants that were discounted hundreds of dollars within months of the shelf availability. This trend continues as AIBs and vendors try to price-match their products with recent economic conditions & supply/demand. It should be mentioned that this isn't particularly an official NVIDIA price cut but a discount that's promoted by AIBs and retailers.
As for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB GPU itself, the card still has some benefits over the RX 7800 XT such as support for DLSS 3 (3.5) and its upcoming features such as Ray Reconstruction that will further improve NVIDIA's ray tracing performance and image quality over AMD's RDNA 3 GPUs. The RX 7800 XT meanwhile is the better card in terms of rasterization and value to money, offering great 1440p performance but at the same time, the RTX 4070 provides vastly better efficiency. So it all falls down to gamer preferences if they want better RT/Upscaling capabilities or a faster raster & higher VRAM option. Let us know what you think is the better buy in the comments below.
