The AI hyper-tailwind is now finally starting to trickle down to real-world applications. Yesterday, Morgan Stanley wowed its customers with a virtual financial adviser in the form of an AI-powered chatbot. Today, it is Mark Zuckerberg's turn, whose Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) is now attempting to utilize the almost boundless promise offered by AI to delve into the mysteries of the human body.
For the benefit of those who might not be aware, the CZI is a philanthropic initiative by Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan. The initiative is funded almost exclusively by the power couple's gigantic Meta stake.

This brings us to the crux of the matter. In a recent Instagram Reel, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan announced that they are now building "one of the largest AI compute clusters in non-profit life sciences" to construct virtual cells that would mimic the way actual human body cells behave, eventually allowing doctors and scientists to predict how such cells would respond to specific stimuli.
Of course, should the newest CZI project realize its goals, it would mark a significant advancement in understanding how human biology works, allowing scientists to create better medicines and vaccines, including those tailored to the idiosyncracies of each individual patient.
Meanwhile, as an illustration of the ever-growing demand for AI-based computing power, NVIDIA shipped 900 tons of its cutting-edge H100 GPUs in the second quarter of 2023, equating to around 300,000 units. The GPU maker plans to ship between 1.5 million and 2 million GPUs by 2024.
In light of this persistent AI-related tailwind, it is hardly a surprise that NVIDIA's revenue continues to outgrow even the most optimistic of predictions set by Wall Street analysts. The company recently revealed that it expects $16 billion (plus or minus 2 percent) in sales for Q3 2024. For reference, consensus expectations for the quarter's revenue were pegged at just $12.61 billion before the latest earnings release.
