Chinese GPU maker, Moore Threads, has adopted a somewhat aggressive approach towards its software development, as the company's new driver update brings significant performance uplifts.
Moore Threads 230.40.0.1 GPU Driver Features Support For OpenGL 3.3 & Several Optimizations, Still A Far Cry From Modern GPU Capabilities
Regarding GPU portfolio, Moore Threads has made some decent releases with their MTT S80 featuring support for PCIe Gen 5.0. However, their driver department has lagged a lot behind, which results in a lot of untapped potential for their GPUs. We previously reported that the company is progressing towards improving its GPUs in rendering applications such as Unreal Engine 5, and now the driver update finally targets mainstream consumers.
With the new 230.40.0.1 community driver, the Chinese GPU manufacturer aims to improve performance through several optimizations and bug fixes. Moreover, the new update also brings in support for the outdated OpenCL 3.3 as well.
The new driver update brings vast performance improvement figures, starting out with the famous FPS shooter Valorant. The highly popular title in China witnessed a 40% performance increase at 1080p, which is a huge number considering that we haven't seen such optimizations by the company before. Moreover, titles like Project CARS also saw a decent bump, but overall, Moore Threads is striving towards establishing a position in the GPU industry, especially in China.
Apart from gaming, the new update emphasizes improving figures at synthetic benchmarking applications. It is disclosed that benchmarks such as the "Neon Nior Benchmark " also see a vast improvement since Moore Threads has optimized applications utilizing the "CryEngine" engine. The famous Unigine Valley running at DX11 now provides enhanced benchmarking figures, showing a 30% uplift. The driver update can indeed be categorized as a "well-rounded" one, and we look forward to similar future updates.

Moore Threads hasn't gained the traction in Chinese markets that it was expected to, but that was related to the company's "naive" software resources. The company still has a long way to go if it wishes to reach near the likes of its competitors, but for now, they are at least heading in the right direction.
