A groundbreaking new Starfield mod that was shared online yesterday addresses one of the most common complaints regarding space exploration, finally allowing for convenient seamless travel between different planets in the same star system.
The Slower than Light mod, which can be downloaded from Nexus Mods, allows players to control the speed gear of their ships with hotkeys, letting them switch between regular flight speed to the equivalent of hundreds of times the speed of light, essentially making it possible to travel from one planet to another inside the same star system in a convenient way. While this is possible in the vanilla game, it takes an extremely long time to get from one planet to another, no matter the ship, essentially forcing players to use quick traveling.
While having to use menus to travel in space definitely damages immersion, Starfield is still an excellent role-playing game and one of the best titles Bethesda ever released, as I highlighted in my review.
With an engaging story, well-developed characters and lore, and a huge amount of meaningful content, Starfield is one of Bethesda's finest games and one of the best role-playing games released in the past few years. The lack of seamless exploration and real innovation of the typical gameplay formula from the studio are noteworthy, but those willing to forego these issues will find a reactive and sprawling sci-fi universe to lose themselves in for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours.
Starfield is now available on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S worldwide. The game is also available as part of the Xbox Game Pass library on PC and consoles. You can learn more about some essential mods to install to improve the experience here.
