ASUS's high-end overclocking motherboard, the ROG Maximus Z790 APEX Encore for enthusiasts, has been leaked by Benchlife.

ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 APEX Encore Motherboard Focuses On Extreme Overclocking In A Gorgeous Design

It's already known that ASUS was preparing a brand new high-end overclocking motherboard for extreme PC enthusiasts who like to push things to the max. This motherboard is the ROG Maximus Z790 APEX Encore which follows up on the original ROG Maximus Z790 APEX & built to support the Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Desktop CPU lineup.

While the official launch is still a few days away, it looks like Benchlife managed to grab hold of the first pictures of this insanity of a motherboard that comes with over 20 VRM phases and is powered by dual 8-pin connectors for the LGA 1700 CPU socket. There are two DDR5 DIMM slots and there's also a single ROG DIMM.2 slot which houses the M.2 expansion card.

The DDR5 slots will be able to support some extremely fast memory configurations of over DDR5-10000. The existing ROG APEX is already known for hitting over DDR5-11000 MT/s speeds and with the slightly improved IMC on the 14th Gen chips, we can expect the latest model to push things even further.

In terms of expansion, the motherboard comes with two PCIe x16 slots (Gen 5/Gen 4), and two PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, and there are also at least four M.2 slots with an additional two onboard the DIMM.2 module. There are also four SATA III ports and you get an additional 8-pin connector to deliver some extra juice to the PCIe lanes. I/O also looks to be really strong and the design is also very appealing with large ROG logos on the metallic-silver heatsinks. There are a range of tuning switches and buttons next to the DIMM.2 slots and a few at the bottom of the board too.

Some of the specs include:

  • ATX Form Factor
  • Intel LGA1700 socket
  • Intel Z790 chipset
  • 2 x PCI-Express 5.0 x16
  • Dual DDR5-5600 2 x DIMM slots (Intel XMP support)
  • 4 x SATA-600
  • 4 x M.2 NVMe PCI-Express 4.0
  • 1 x M.2 NVMe PCI-Express 5.0 (M.2 size: 2242 / 2260 / 2280)
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 type A & C
  • Intel I225-V 2.5 Gigabit (LAN)
  • Intel WiFi 7 & Bluetooth 5.4
  • Realtek ALC4080 HD Audio
  • ASUS AURA Sync software

In terms of pricing, French-based retailer, Proshop, has listed the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Encore for a price of 839.90 Euros which is around where we expect this motherboard to land considering its enthusiast positioning. Expect availability and more information in the coming days since ASUS already teased its new models a while back & launch of 14th Gen CPUs is just around the corner.
