Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the latest in Ubisoft’s blockbuster series, and a bit of a throwback to an earlier time for the series. Rather than a big overstuffed RPG, Mirage is more of a traditional action-adventure experience, and as such, some folks more used to recent games like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla may need to adjust slightly.
Case in point, Assassin’s Creed Mirage really doubles down on stealth, with straight-ahead combat not really being an option most of the time. Some of Mirage’s stealth challenges can be fairly tricky, but don’t worry, with our tips you can stab your way to success without much trouble. Use your eagle buddy Enkidu to survey the area
When you have a new outpost or enemy base to infiltrate, your instinct may be to rush right in and get to stabbing, but it always pays to get an aerial view of the area with your eagle friend Enkidu. You eagle can mark enemies, treasures, and other things like keys and hidden passages, allowing to plan your attack ahead of time. Sometimes outposts will have an eagle archer that will shoot down Enkidu, so take them out first, then see what they were trying to hide from you and your eagle.
Get the high ground
Bad guys in Assassin’s Creed Mirage are pretty much blind to anything happening above them, so when you first infiltrate an area, scramble up to the highest point first. This will allow you to take out any scouts or eagle archers, and then you can essentially work from the top on down, getting the drop on clueless guards below you.
Never rush in without using your Eagle Vision
Basim has an eagle, but he also has his own Eagle Vision, that allows you to highlight and mark enemies, even through walls. Needless to say, this is an extremely useful ability and you should never just barge into a room, round a corner, or go up a staircase without examining the area with Eagle Vision first.
Whistle while you work
Is a guard stationed somewhere inconvenient? Don’t wrack your brain trying to come up with a way to sneak up on them, just hide in the nearest bush or patch of grass and give a little whistle. 9 times out of 10 they’ll wander right over and you can assassinate them and stash them in the underbrush.
Hide your dirty business
Speaking of which, while it doesn’t always matter, it usually pays to hide the bodies of guards you’ve killed so as not to arouse suspicion. Hide ‘em in the high grass, one of the curtained booths strewn around levels, or just dump ‘em in an isolated corner of the level.
Save Assassin’s Focus for larger groups of guards
One of the big additions to AC Mirage is Assassin’s Focus, which allows you to mark several enemies (up to five if you upgrade your abilities) and take them out instantly without alerting anybody. This is great, but you do have a limited number of Assassin’s Focus charges that you have to replenish by stealthily killing guards. As such, don’t waste your Assassin’s Focus – save it for moments when you happen upon larger groups of guards clustered in an area that you can’t easily sneak up on or pick off.
Don't forget to use your tools
A guard is stationed in a place that isn’t easy to sneak up on and even the whistle trick isn’t working, so what do you do? Time to bust out your tools. Basim has a collection of six different tools can eventually unlock, including throwing knives, blow darts, and more. The throwing knives are great for taking enemies out from afar, while the darts only knock baddies out, but arouse less suspicion. Meanwhile, smoke is a great option if you’ve been caught and need to find a quick hiding place.
Getting caught isn't the end of the world...
Speaking of getting caught, while it’s frustrating, it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to immediately restart the mission. Always keep an eye on the indicators that show whether you’ve been spotted – if they’re only yellow, you can simply hide in the grass or around a corner and the guards will give up relatively quickly. If they’re red, you’re in bigger trouble, but if you can break the guards’ sight line and find a good hiding spot, they’ll still give up eventually. If the level your infiltrating isn’t walled in, you can simple run out of the mission area and wait a few seconds and the guards will reset and return to their posts. So yeah, stay on your toes and a minor mess up doesn’t have to be Game Over.
...unless they ring that damn bell
The exception to the above rule is if a guard manages to make it to the bell most outposts have and rings it. In that case, you’re well and truly screwed. While scouting a mission area, make special note of where the bell is (it will be marked in bright red) and be extra careful while around it. Also, if a guard sees you and announces they’re going to go ring the bell, try to take them out immediately before they can (a quick throwing knife to the back works well).
And there you have it! Follow the tips above and you should be able to get through most of Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s stealth challenges without too much aggravation.
