NVIDIA has introduced its brand new RTX Video Super Resolution 1.5 technology which offers improved quality and support for Turing GPUs.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 GPUs Now Get RTX Video Super Resolution 1.5 Support Too, Improves Visual Quality Over Native Resolution
NVIDIA is making tremendous efforts in the consumer AI segment with a range of technologies. The most prominent one for consumers has so far been DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) which makes use of AI to create more accurate and detailed images while delivering a massive performance boost. DLSS has evolved over many years and the latest DLSS 3.5 version makes games look even better and delivers even more performance.
Earlier this year, NVIDIA also expanded its AI prowess by leveraging RTX Video Super Resolution, a new AI-boosting software that used the Tensor Core acceleration to deliver upscaled video & video playback across various platforms such as YouTube & Twitch with support on Chromium browsers, Microsoft's Edge browser, streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Max, etc and popular video playback applications such as VLC Media Player. Been using it for several months now, RTX Video Super Resolution does indeed make viewing videos and streams a bit better than their original quality but there's still room for improvement.
So enter RTX Video Super Resolution 1.5, the first major update to NVIDIA's VSR technology which is not only meant to improve the image quality but also enables more consumers to enjoy it without the need to upgrade your GPU hardware. Starting today, NVIDIA's RTX Video Super Resolution 1.5 is going to be available across all GeForce RTX 20 "Turing" GPUs (Consumer Gaming and pro cards) in the latest driver release.
Available now, RTX VSR version 1.5 further improves visual quality with updated models, de-artifacts content played in its native resolution, and adds support for RTX GPUs based on the Turing architecture both professional RTX and GeForce RTX 20 Series GPUs.
Retraining the VSR AI model helped it learn to accurately identify the difference between subtle details and compression artifacts. As a result, AI-enhanced images more accurately preserve details during the upscale process. Finer details are more visible, and the overall image looks sharper and crisper than ever before. New with version 1.5 is de-artifacting video played at the display’s native resolution. The original release only enhanced the video when it was being upscaled. Now, for example, 1080p video streamed to a 1080p resolution display will look smoother as heavy artifacts are reduced.

Furthermore, looking at the improvements being offered, the NVIDIA RTX Video Super Resolution 1.5 technology has been trained through countless hours using NVIDIA's latest and greatest AI GPU hardware to offer increased visual quality with updated models, The new model also supports new native playback mode while reducing artifacts for a smoother and cleaner image. The majority of gaming streams are 720p resolution so upscaling them to a higher resolution (1080p) using NVIDIA RTX VSR will help improve the visual fidelity but with RTX VSR 1.5, you can watch a stream at 1080p and still get a higher visual quality over the native stream.
