The former NPD Group (now named “Circana”) has released its full North American sales data for September, and it was a good month for the industry. Players spent $4.5 billion on games, additional content, and hardware in June, a 10 percent year-on-year increase. The PS5 continued its strong streak, being #1 in terms of both unit and dollar sales, and the Xbox Series X/S managed to come in at #2, driven by the game at the top of the software charts.
On the software front, Starfield was #1 with a bullet, beating out the likes of Mortal Kombat 1 at #2 and EA Sports FC 24 at #3. Interestingly, the top platform Starfield sold on was PC, which may explain why its launch didn’t manage to boost the Xbox Series X/S to the top of the hardware charts. Other new additions included Payday 3 at #5, NBA 2K24 at #6 (a surprisingly low debut for the basketball game), and The Crew Motorfest at #7.
