New benchmarks of the Intel Core i7-14700K CPU have been leaked and this time we have an ES chip that was overclocked to 5.8 GHz.
Intel Core i7-14700K CPU Leaks Out Once Again, Benchmarks Show Up To 17% Faster Than 13700K & 5.8 GHz Overclock
Earlier, we got to see the Intel Core i7-14700K leak out with up to 20% faster performance than its predecessor, the 13700K. The latest benchmarks are based on an early ES chip which has slightly lower clock speeds than the ones we are going to get on the retail model. The benchmarks were posted by Bilibili's content creator, 捡七七的小垃圾, who used an MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 board & a 360mm AIO cooler with 16 GB of DDR4-4000 memory.
This will be the fifth leak of the Intel Core i7-14700K which had previously appeared multiple times. We first saw the chip back in July in the first leaked benchmarks which showed up to 15% better performance with an ES SKU, later we saw the chip running up to 6.3 GHz (overclocked) on an MSI Z690 motherboard and the chip also had additional benchmarks leak out alongside its i9 brother within the BAPCo database.
In terms of specifications, the Intel Core i7-14700K CPU comes with an 8+12 core configuration that offers 20 cores & 28 threads. This will be a nice upgrade over the existing Core i7-13700K processor which offers an 8+8 core config, delivering further boost to multi-threaded performance thanks to those extra E-Cores. The CPU will offer 33 MB of smart cache (vs 30 MB) & feature clock speeds of 3.4 GHz at the base and up to 5.6 GHz with TBMT3. That's also a +200 MHz boost over the 13700K & we can see performance uplifts of around 5-10% from this particular SKU.
- Core i7-14700K: 20 Cores (8+12) / 28 Threads / 5.6 GHz Boost / 33 MB L3 Cache / 125W / $450?
- Core i7-13700K: 16 Cores (8+8) / 24 Threads / 5.4 GHz Boost / 30 MB L3 Cache / 125W / $409
- Core i7-12700K: 12 Cores (8+4) / 20 Threads / 5.0 GHz Boost / 25 MB L3 Cache / 125W / $450
The AIDA64 performance for the Core i7-14700K is as you might except with DDR4 memory. The chip does boast some higher L3 and L2 numbers thanks to the increased amount but this chip is designed around the DDR5 subsystem and will take advantage of much faster memory kits than Alder Lake & Raptor Lake CPUs.
In terms of performance, the CPU performed well with up to a 16.96% performance boost within the Cinebench R23 benchmark, a 16.11% increase in the CPU-z MT benchmark, and a 14.89% increase in the 3DMark CPU Profile MAX benchmark. The most notable jumps came within multi-threaded benchmarks due to the upgraded core configuration while the single-core benchmarks saw a performance gain within the 5% threshold. Once again, these benchmarks are based on ES clock speeds so the final results should be slightly better.
Gaming performance was also better than the Core i7-13700K except for a few instances where the Intel Core i7-14700K performed worse than its predecessor due to poor firmware-level tuning and the ES clock speeds. The results are compiled in the following chart:
Intel Core i7-14700K vs 13700K CPU Gaming Benchmarks
Game Name | Core i7-14700K (Avg FPS) | Core i7-13700K (Avg FPS) | Core i7-14700K (Max FPS) | Core i7-13700K (Max FPS) |
---|---|---|---|---|
PUBG | 180 | 174 | 375 | 315 |
Apex Legends | 299 | 299 | 1083 | 1108 |
Forza Horizon 5 | 288 | 280 | 403 | 374 |
Battlefield 2142 | 152 | 154 | 221 | 366 |
The Last of Us Part 1 | 78 | 75 | 89 | 92 |
Dying Light 2 | 188 | 170 | 363 | 247 |
CSGO | 351 | 331 | 1564 | 1530 |
Genshin Impact | 243 | 230 | 302 | 262 |
Red Dead Redemption 2 | 184 | 160 | 1045 | 796 |
Cyberpunk 2077 | 158 | 157 | 240 | 234 |
Lastly, we have a single overclocked performance benchmark where the chip was shown running at up to 5.8 GHz across 2 cores and 5.7 GHz across the rest of the cores. The CPU was tested in CPU-z & scored 937 points in single-core and 15599.8 points in the multi-threaded tests. The Core Temp application reported peak temperatures reaching the low 80s which is very decent given that the last-gen chips were easily able to go past 90C with such overclocks. However, at stock within AIDA stress test, the chip easily surpassed the 90C limit.
The CPU consumed a stock 300W at 1.35V at stock (ES) while tuning it down to 1.30V slashed the wattage down to 260W which is still higher than the 12900K and 13900K CPUs.
We will see if the Intel Core i7-14700K can match or come close to the efficiency of the 3D V-Cache Ryzen 7 7800X3D chip in gaming while offering much better multi-threaded performance or if it will stumble under its high power consumption and heat output. The Intel Raptor Lake Refresh 14th Gen CPUs are expected to launch in the coming months with an unveil planned for Innovation 23.
