AMD is teasing its upcoming RDNA 3 powered Radeon RX 7000 GPUs which will be unveiled this week at Gamescom 2023.
AMD's Enthusiast Radeon RX 7000 "RDNA 3" GPUs Teased, Reference Design With Triple-Fan Cooler
It looks like AMD is giving attendees of Gamescom 2023 a little teaser of its upcoming Radeon RX 7000 "RDNA 3" GPUs ahead of the full unveil later this week. We know that the company has a full event planned for the unveiling of new products including the "Enthusiast-Class" Radeon RX 7000 GPU family but the company has displayed a cardboard version of the reference design to give an early look at what to expect.
Based on the design, it looks like AMD will once again be going for a triple-fan cooling solution that is likely to be powered by dual 8-pin connectors. This is going to be a dual-slot design and from the looks of it, this is most likely the Radeon RX 7800 XT. The same card will also be available in various custom models, one of which got leaked out early on.
Gamescom 2023 has already commenced and AMD has its own "Highlight Show" planned for the 25th of August at 8 AM (Pacific Time). The event will be hosted by AMD's gaming folks including Frank Azor and Scott Herkelman among other key personalities. Besides the two graphics cards, it is also likely that AMD would give us an official update on HYPR-RX & the highly anticipated FSR 3 tech that was meant to compete against DLSS 3.
Now as far as specifications are concerned, the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT GPU is based on the Navi 32 SKU with four MCDs. The GPU core comes with 3840 cores packed within 60 Compute Units. It's configured with 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM that operates across a 256-bit wide bus interface, packs 64 MB of Infinity Cache, & operates at an 18 Gbps pin speed for 576 GB/s of total bandwidth. That's RX 7800 XT but we don't know the exact configuration of the RX 7700 XT GPU yet.
Based on the memory configuration, it will feature a 192-bit bus interface so we are looking at another yet cut-down Navi 32 variant with only three of the four MCDs enabled so we can also expect 48 MB of Infinity Cache. As for the core configuration we can expect around 24 Compute Units with 3072 stream processors.
In terms of pricing, the AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card may cost between $550-$600 US while the Radeon RX 7700 XT may cost between $350-$450 US. Both of these cards will go up against the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 series, respectively. AMD considers all GPUs above the $500 US price range as "Enthusiast-Class" whereas $1000 US & above products are labeled as the "Ultra-Enthusiast Class".
It should also be mentioned that AMD's rivals at the green team have already launched the full RTX 40 GPU lineup with just a few entry-level desktop SKUs missing. NVIDIA is now focused on further strengthening its software ecosystem and the recent announcements made at Gamescom 2023 such as DLSS 3.5 shows this. Hopefully, AMD can also unveil a mix of hardware and software at their event. The launch is just a few days ahead so stay tuned for the live stream.
