AMD's second announcement today is the Radeon RX 7700 XT 12 GB graphics card which competes with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.
AMD Has A Seriously Good Contender For Mainstream Gamers With The Radeon RX 7700 XT, 12 GB & 12% Faster Than RTX 4060 On Average
The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT is the red team's answer to the mainstream competition that has been mainly ignored by gaming audiences due to lackluster performance & value over the last generation. AMD wants to change that by introducing a product that would be seen as a true & next-gen successor to the Radeon RX 6700 and RX 5700 series and that's the 7700 XT. This is the second GPU to be based on the new RDNA 3 "Navi 32" graphics core so let's start with the specs.
The AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT features a slightly cut-down Navi 32 XL GPU with 54 RDNA 3 Compute Units that pack 3456 cores. These cores are clocked at up to 2544 MHz, offering up to 35 TFLOPs of FP32 compute performance. The GPU is also packed with 54 RT accelerator cores, 108 AI cores, and 108 ROPs. The card has a TBP that's very close to the 7800 XT at 245W which is also higher than its predecessor.
Memory specifications of the graphics card include a very welcomed 12 GB VRAM that operates at up to 18 Gbps pin speeds across a 192-bit wide bus interface. The GPU also packs 48 MB of the 2nd Gen Infinity Cache that is packed within the 3 of the 4 MCDs (for this SKU). You can expect all the latest features such as AV1 hardware encoding, and DisplayPort 2.1 & HDMI 2.1 from the graphics card but it should be mentioned that the graphics card will only be available in custom flavors with an MBA design probably being kept for OEM solutions.
- RX 7700 XT - Navi 32 XL / 3456 Cores / 12 GB GDDR6 / 245W / $449 US
- RX 6700 XT - Navi 22 XT / 2560 Cores / 12 GB GDDR6 / 230W / $479 US
In terms of performance, AMD compares the Radeon RX 7800 XT GPU with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB which is a $499 US graphics card. The card is easily able to outperform the 16 GB RTX 4060 Ti at 1440P (Native) across several titles, leading to up to 31% better performance and 12% on average. The huge boost in performance comes from the fact that the card not only has higher memory bandwidth but also gets a wider bus which is something that the 4060 Ti severely lacks.
The performance on display here definitely marks the RX 7700 XT as a great option for mainstream gamers, especially at the given price point. With the addition of FSR 3, this card can even be able to offer even better performance at 1440P and even allow 4K gaming which is something that the RTX 4060 series definitely can't achieve in the heavier AAA titles due to their lackluster memory configs.
The AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT & RX 7700 XT GPUs will be available the same day on the 6th of September, 2023, the same day as the release of Starfield and both cards will be bundled with a copy of the game.
