Intel's 14th Gen Core i5-14600K Desktop CPU shows up to a 10% performance gain over its predecessor in leaked benchmarks.

Intel Core i5-14600K CPU Tested: 160W Peak Power & 10% Boost Over Core i5-13600K

The latest benchmarks of the Intel Core i5-14600K CPU were shared by Enthusiast Citizen over at Bilibili. The CPU tested is an ES part running on a Z790 motherboard with the RX 7900 XTX card. It looks like no manual overclocking was used and the chip was testing in its stock configuration so that gives us a clear image of what one can expect from the CPU at launch. The cooling apparatus was not mentioned but the leaker did mention that the 8 P-Cores were sipping in more than 1.4V voltages which is quite high and that might get fixed with the retail silicon that ships next month to consumers.

Despite the higher voltages, the Intel Core i5-14600K CPU managed to run under 75C at peak load within AIDA64's stress test while consuming 160W of peak power. The 13600K had a rated power rating (PL2) of 181W and we can expect the same from this chip while it runs 200 MHz faster. Now moving on to the specifications.

The specifications of the Intel Core i5-14600K CPU are straightforward. You will be getting a total of 6 P-Cores (12 threads) and 8 E-Cores (8 Threads) for a total of 14 cores and 20 threads. The cores are once again based on the same 10ESF process node and utilize the Raptor Cove & Gracemont core architecture. The chip provides 24 MB of L3 cache and 20 MB of L2 cache. The CPU runs at a base clock speed of 3.5 GHz and boosts up to 5.3 GHz (across a single core).

  • Core i5-13600K: 14 Cores (6+8) / 20 Threads / 5.1 GHz Boost / 24 MB L3 Cache / 125W / $319

Starting with the first benchmark, we have the latest Cinebench 2024 in which the Intel Core i5-14600K ES CPU was 10% faster in both single and multi-threading against the Core i5-13600K. It makes for a decent chip if you can get it for the same price of the 13600K which may just end up being true if we take into consideration the latest retailer listings.

Next up, we have Cinebench R23 and CPU-z where the gains drop down in the 5% mark which is still an improvement but not as much as the one seen in Cinebench 2024. It is expected that the 200 MHz faster clocks won't yield much higher performance but some benchmarks or apps may just deliver a better performance scenario for the Core i5-14600K. The chip has the exact same configuration as the 13600K.

The leaker states that the Intel Core i5-14600K holds tremendous undervolting potential which was also seen with the Core i5-13600K. The Core i5-13600K went on to become a success story for Intel and still does well against the Zen 4-based Ryzen 5 parts. The Ryzen 5 parts do offer better value as recent discounts have slashed the prices quite a lot but the family is yet to see X3D action & that might change soon since the company already brought out its X3D tech to the Ryzen 5 chips on AM4 socket. The Core i5-14600K launches next month with more mainstream offerings coming in early 2024.
