Benchmarks of Intel's Core i5-14400, a mainstream 14th Gen Non-K CPU, have leaked out ahead of its launch which is scheduled for early 2024.
Intel 14th Gen Non-K Desktop CPUs Arrive Early 2024 & Benchmarks of The Core i5-14400 Have Already Leaked Out
Although Intel launched its 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh "K" CPUs yesterday, the Non-K chips are not going to hit retail shelves until early 2024 or CES. This is to make sure that retail partners and distributors make room for the new chips without overstocking which can lead to adverse side-effects later on. Despite that, the chips have already leaked out & we have known the specifications for some time now.
Now, the Intel Core i5-14400 CPU has leaked out within the Geekbench 6 database. Starting with the specification of this chip, it is pretty much the same design we saw with the Core i3-13400 as it offers 6 P-Cores, and 4 E-Cores for a total of 10 cores and 16 threads. The chip has a base clock of 2.5 GHz and boosts up to 4.7 GHz which is also where this chip was boosting. There's 20 MB of L3 and 9.5 MB of L2 cache. TDP for this chip should be maintained at 65W at PL1 and 148W at PL2.
In terms of performance, the Intel Core i5-14400 CPU scored 2464 points in the single-core and 13,373 points in the multi-core tests. This marks a +8% improvement in single-core & +29% boost within multi-core tests over the Core i5-13400. We know that the Intel Core i5-14400 CPU is just a clock boost part, offering +200 MHz frequency and nothing new so one might question the huge performance gain here.
Geekbench 6 Single-Core (Higher is Better)
Geekbench 6 Multi-Core (Higher is Better)
The thing is that the Intel Core i5-13400 CPU numbers we used for comparison are based on the average of all the chips tested whereas the Core i5-14400 CPU numbers are just one entry. This high score could be a result of better cooling and better BIOS support plus the memory is rated at DDR5-6000 (64 GB) whereas the majority of Core i5-13400 users don't even enable XMP profiles. In reality, you shouldn't expect the performance difference to be more than 5% for the Core i5-14400.
Regardless, since the pricing of the Intel Core i5-14400 14th Gen CPU is going to be the same as the 13th Gen Core i5-13400, the extra performance is welcome and the chip would definitely be a good selection with a entry-level B760 or H610 motherboard as a gaming PC.
