AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-series Processors

Starting at the top PRO parts, we have the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX CPU which will offer a total of 96 cores, 192 threads, and up to 384 MB of L3 cache. This chip will offer a 2.50 GHz base clock & a boost clock of up to 5.15 GHz. This gargantuan of a chip will have 50% more cores/threads versus the Zen 3-based 5995WX while running at 14% higher clock speeds at a 25% higher TDP (350 vs 280 Watts).

Next up, we have the AMD Threadripper PRO 7985WX, 7975WX, 7965WX, featuring 64/128, 32/64 & 24/48 configurations. While the 7985WX runs at a base clock of 3.20 GHz, the other two chips will be operating at 4.0 - 4.20 GHz at the base frequency while all chips boost up to 5.35 GHz. The cache counts are maintained at 256 MB, 128 MB, and 96 MB, respectively.

Lastly, we have the two entry-level solutions which include the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7955WX with 16 cores & 32 threads plus the 7945WX with 12 cores & 24 threads. These chips have the highest-rated base clocks of 4.5 and 4.7 GHz, respectively, while boost clocks are rated at up to 5.35 GHz. All chips operate at 350W TDPs and feature support for DDR5-4800 and up to DDR5-5200 memory. You can get up to 2 TB capacities on the Storm Peak platform while the PCIe Gen5 lanes range from 48 to 128 depending on the platform.

For the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 CPUs, there are three chips, the Ryzen Threadripper 7980X, 7970X, and 7960X which feature 64 cores, 32 cores, and 24 cores respectively. The lineup boosts up to 5.3 GHz and features the same 350W TDP. Expect the following improvements from next-gen Threadripper chips:

  • New Zen 4 Core Architecture
  • Up To 96 Cores / 192 Threads
  • New TRX50/WRX90 Platform (Storm Peak)
  • Up To 350W TDP Designs Across All SKUs
  • 8-Channel & 4-Channel DDR5 Memory Support
  • Up To 128 PCIe Gen 5.0 Lanes
  • Up To 384 MB of L3 Cache / 480 MB Full Pool
  • Up To 75% Faster Than Threadripper 5000WX
  • Up To 123% Faster Than Intel Xeon W-3400

Today, Dell is amongst the several OEM partners who will be introducing their latest workstations with AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 7000 CPUs. Dell has announced the new Precision 7875 Tower that gives users the choice of up to Ryzen Threadripper 7995WX CPUs with 96 Cores, 56 TB of storage & 2 TB of DDR5 memory while running a choice of AMD Radeon PRO W7900 or NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada GPUs. Similarly, Lenovo and HP have also introduced their brand new solutions based around the Threadripper 7000 family of chips.

On the motherboard front, most manufacturers are targeting the unveiling of their TRX50 series on 23rd November. ASRock, Gigabyte, and ASUS are confirmed to launch their next-gen TRX50 designs and we might also see one or two WRX90 parts.
