AMD Starts to Roll Out RDNA 3.5 Refresh “GFX1150” GPU Support In Linux 6.7

AMD Starts to Roll Out RDNA 3.5 Refresh "GFX1150" GPU Support In Linux 6.7 1

AMD has started to push out early RDNA 3.5 "GFX1150" GPU  enablement in Linux 6.7, striving to bring support for future RDNA architectures.

AMD RDNA 3.5 "GFX1150" GPU Support Lands In Linux 6.7 Ahead of Official Announcement

Phoronix reports that Team Red has started to release initial patches for "GFX 1150" support in Linux's 6.7 kernel. Now for those who are unaware, GFX 1150 is categorized as RDNA 3.5. This is more or less a soft refresh with a few efficiency optimizations and architectural tweaks and will mainly be incorporated in next-gen Ryzen 8000 APUs, most notably the Strix Point series which are set for a 2024 introduction.

A previous leak about the AMD Strix Point APUs did reveal that RDNA 3.5 "iGPU" will feature 8 WGP's (Work Group Processors) and a total of 16 Compute Units for up to 1024 stream processors. There was no evidence for the GPU clock speeds.

It is revealed that GFX1150 "RDNA 3.5" GPU enablement has already been started, and the initial batch of "codes" has already been merged into the kernel. Since the individual changes in the line stack up to be quite less compared to when it is a generational upgrade, the Linux enablement isn't as difficult for AMD. Here is how the code elements will shape up, once AMD's RADV driver receives full support for RDNA 3.5:

AMD hasn't disclosed anything about the RDNA 3.5 refresh itself, but the company did reveal that its original RDNA 3 ASIC is complete which did suppress rumors of a"refresh". However, AMD did say that new products could be released depending on the market demands, hence the possibility can't be ruled out.

The AMD Ryzen 8000 CPU and APU family is expected to launch sometime in 2024. The Ryzen 8000 APUs will be featuring the higher-end integrated SKUs with multiple RDNA 3.5 compute units while the desktop CPUs will be limited to just 2-4 CUs like the existing generation. We are bound to get a few bits and pieces of these next-gen families around CES 2024.
