We Tried To Review Funko Fusion But It Softlocked On Us 21 Times

After finishing a frustrating boss fight in Funko Fusion against a never-ending stream of baddies in a grocery store, I was finally done with Hot Fuzz’s fourth level. I could move on. A cutscene played but the audio was missing. That happens a lot in t...

Grab 2024’s Most Ridiculous RPG While It’s On Sale

At the beginning of the year, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth launched a hell of an opening salvo. The latest installment in the long-running Like a Dragon/Yakuza series is comically full of things to do. On one hand, it’s a turn-based RPG epic, splitti...

Jeff Grubb Says Next State of Play Likely To Announce A “Less Exciting” Remaster

It's seemingly confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a remaster, despite the fact it really doesn't need one. Sony is focusing on making the games look a bit cleaner and visually striking instead of rebooting or porting franchises that people actually care about. Although it hasn't been officially confirmed that a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster is coming, it's quite likely since the rumor has been floating around since 2022. People now believe this is happening because the supposed remastered version has been rated by the ESRB, listening to PC and PlayStation 5 as the platforms. In the latest Game […]

Wccftech’s Best Strategy & Simulation Games of 2023

2023 has seen my gaming life jump off of a cliff. Due to a promotion at the day job, I'm an elected councillor, and I have two gorgeous cats, which means I have a lot on - not to mention other family commitments, illnesses, and general "why is life?!" moments. That doesn't stop me from playing games; it just means I have to be selective, and something needs to make me want to play it. Yes, that is precisely why I reviewed Arrow a Row. You're here for Wccftech's Best Strategy and Simulation Games of 2023, so let's get started. […]

Wccftech’s Best Multiplayer Games of 2023 – All Kinds of Fun

Not too long ago, many publishers went all-in on multiplayer games (also called live service games in most cases), believing it would be the future of gaming. While single player is thankfully going nowhere, the pull of multiplayer gaming remains undeniably strong, even at a time when the success of a new live service title is far from guaranteed. Also in Wccftech's Best Games of 2023 lists: Shooter, Fighting, RPG, Action, Indie, Adventure, Horror, Sports & Racing, Platform, Expansion/DLC Diablo IV (8.5) While not an MMO (unlike Diablo Immortal), Diablo IV was designed from the get-go as a shared world experience where adventurers would […]

Wccftech’s Best Expansions/DLCs of 2023 – Expanding Horizons

In this day and age, gamers are pretty much accustomed to expansions and DLCs being the norm. A successful game rarely passes on the opportunity to release additional post-launch content, be it premium (as a way of getting more revenue out of customers) or free (simply to say thanks to all the fans who bought the base game). 2023 was particularly fruitful in this regard, delivering several noteworthy DLCs and expansions, so we thought there was enough to warrant a separate end-of-year category. Without further ado, here's our selection of the best five pieces of additional content released in the […]

Wccftech’s Best Platform Games of 2023 – Runners, Wonders, and (Pizza) Towers

Platform games have had a standout year. 2023 has been one of the best years for the genre since perhaps 2018 and its catalog of La Mulana 2, among others. As usual, Nintendo’s seal of quality shines through with their representation, but there’s a fair bit to jump and collect regardless of your console (or PC) preference. Metroidvanias took a backseat this year to traditional platformers. While sidescrollers still reign supreme in the genre, Ghostrunner 2 was a pleasant surprise that took that parkour action I loved from the original Mirror’s Edge and cranked it up to a whole new […]

Wccftech’s Best Sports and Racing Games of 2023 – Cruising to the Finish Line

2023 wasn’t necessarily a banner year for either sports of racing games. The various annualized sports franchises largely kept things safe and predictable, although MLB The Show 23 did some interesting things with its new Storylines mode. On the racing front, the new Forza Motorsport was the headliner, although Ubisoft delivered a surprise in the easy-to-get-into new open-world racer The Crew Motorsport. Rev up your engines for Wccftech’s Best Sports and Racing Games of 2023… Also in Wccftech's Best Games of 2023 lists: Shooter, Fighting, and RPG, Action, Indie, Adventure, and Horror Football Manager 2024 The Football Manager series may not seem like it […]

Wccftech’s Best Horror Games of 2023 – A Delightfully Dreadful Year

Going into 2023, it seemed like the year was poised to be a landmark one for the horror genre, and it mostly delivered the goods. Some games expected for 2023, like the Silent Hill revival, didn’t materialize, but we still got rock-solid remakes of games like Dead Space and Resident Evil 4 and some terrifying new nightmares like Alan Wake 2. So, summon up your courage for Wccftech’s Best Horror Games of 2023… Also in Wccftech's Best Games of 2023 lists: Shooter, Fighting, and RPG, Action, Indie, and Adventure Dead Space (8) After years of neglect from parent company EA, the Dead […]

Wccftech’s Best Adventure Games of 2023 – Exploration and Mystery

Pure adventure games are a peculiar genre. Some of the most popular games nowadays belong to the action/adventure genre, but for the purposes of our year-end lists, we prefer to split this category into action and adventure. Because of this choice, this list is filled with titles with little to no combat, emphasizing exploration, puzzles, and overall mystery-solving instead. They also tend to be made by smaller studios that bet more on innovative features and ideas rather than bombastic visuals or high production values. 2023 wasn't quite a banner year for adventure games, as no new release received universal acclaim. […]

Wccftech’s Best Indie Games of 2023 – Tradition and Innovation

With AAA titles becoming safer and safer, it is indie games that bring the innovation the video game industry as a whole needs. Much like the past few years, 2023 has seen the release of some excellent titles that twist defined genres into something unique, blending their excellent mechanics with visuals that may not be cutting-edge but are still pleasant enough to the eye. Here are the best indie games released in 2023, in no particular order. With their extremely diverse experiences, it is really impossible to put one above the others. Also in Wccftech's Best Games of 2023 lists: […]

Wccftech’s Best Action Games of 2023 – Heavy-Hitters and Underdogs Duke it Out

On paper, 2023 perhaps wasn’t a landmark year for action games, at least of a more traditional hardcore variety. That said, if you really look at this past year’s release calendar, you’ll find a diverse array of action games both big and small, including the much-anticipated The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, big-budget superhero sequel Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and scrappy underdogs like Hi-Fi Rush. Limber up and get ready to battle through Wccftech’s Best Action Games of 2023! Note: For the purposes of Wccftech’s Best Of lists, any game that requires combat in order to progress is filed […]

Valve Unveils Best Performing Steam Games in 2023

Valve has just released an extensive list of "Best of Steam" titles, including those that were most played throughout the year across multiple platforms. The data includes sales from January 1st, 2023 through December 15th, 2023. Wccftech’s Best Roleplaying Games of 2023 – Incredible Tales

2023 has been a great year for gaming in general, but if there's one genre that marked the past twelve months, it is the roleplaying game genre. Despite many being sequels to established franchises like Baldur's Gate, Diablo, and Final Fantasy, they moved both the genre and the series they belong to forward, showing that there are still many interesting stories to tell in their universes. Picking just five games was as difficult as rolling a natural 20, but ultimately, the choices were made, and the skill check passed. Here are the best roleplaying games released in 2023. Also in […]

Wccftech’s Best Shooter Games of 2023 – Solid Transitory Year

2023 certainly won't be remembered primarily for the shooter games released this year. No new installments in the genre's most prized franchises were launched, with the exception of the yearly Call of Duty entry (Modern Warfare III), and even that was far from a fan-favorite. Still, even if gamers are eagerly waiting for the likes of Battlefield, DOOM, and Gears of War, this year provided plenty of enjoyment thanks to several solid shooter games. Also in our end-of-year lists: Wccftech's Best Fighting Games of 2023. Atomic Heart (7.5) After several years of hype, Mundfish finally launched its debut project, the […]

Nintendo has officially announced that it is suing PocketPair, the creators of Palworld, in collaboration with The Pokemon Company. In a statement on NintendoCoLtd on X, Nintendo filed a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court on September 18, 2024. This lawsuit aims to seek an injunction against infringement and damages after PocketPair allegedly infringed multiple patents in Palworld. This news isn't surprising, except that it didn't come sooner. Palworld was first released in January 2024. In the game, there are plenty of "Pals" that look incredibly similar to the creatures in Pokemon, to the point that it's bordering […]
