At Gamescom 2024, I had the chance to speak to Derek Qiu, Head of Overseas Operations for Once Human, the 'New Weird' free-to-play survival game published by NetEase and developed by Starry Studio. The game launched on PC on July 10 and immediately registered strong player numbers. The plan is to merge everything into a single unified community thanks to cross-play. Tell me about the recent launch. How is it going so far? […]

NetEase's free-to-play survival game Once Human is out now on PC, available for download via Steam or Epic Games Store. We've been following it ever since it showed up on PC Gaming Show's 2023 Preview in late 2022. Over time, Once Human garnered a sizable following, becoming Steam's fifth most-wishlisted upcoming game and the most-played demo at the latest Steam Next Fest. It's early to judge its success, but the game has already broken into Steam's Top 10 chart with over 131K concurrent players. We'll have to wait at least until the weekend to evaluate its peak potential, though. Meanwhile, […]

NetEase Games is looking to change that dynamic with Once Human, a free-to-play online multiplayer title in the same vein as titles such as Tom Clancy’s The Division. We recently went hands-on with the Unreal Engine 5 title on PC thanks to two NetEase reps (Derek Qiu, Head of Overseas Operation, and Peng Sun/Victoria, World and Content Designer) who sat down to talk with us for a brief […]
