Apple is increasingly focusing on building its own devices and expanding its ecosystem by taking steps towards a more native experience for users and relying less on third-party accessories. While the Cupertino-based tech giant's HomePod and AppleTV have left quite the mark in the smart home category, it generally relies more on outsourcing cameras and other hardware for smart homes. Now, a new report suggests that the company intends to create a fully integrated experience by developing its own smart home accessories. Gurman hints about Apple working on making smart home products like security cameras for a more integrated experience […]

This morning, Remedy disclosed that it is getting a €15 million convertible loan from a Tencent affiliate. The loan is subject to approval by the Remedy board during the Extraordinary General Meeting, which is slated for October 24. The loan includes an 8% annual non-cash interest and has a fixed conversion rate of EUR 27.2 per share, a 63.86% premium over the closing price for Remedy's shares on Nasdaq Helsinki as of yesterday's closing. The conversion part means Tencent can choose to get Remedy shares instead, up to 811K of them, which would amount to nearly 6% of total shares. […]
Just a couple of weeks ago, Remedy announced a partnership with Annapurna to co-finance (with an even split) the development of Control 2, as well as to develop movies and TV shows based on the Control and Alan Wake IPs. When it was discovered that Annapurna Interactive's entire team had resigned, fans were understandably worried about the fate of the aforementioned partnership. However, Remedy Communications Director Thomas Puha clarified that the deal was actually with Annapurna Pictures and is, therefore, unaffected. Many of you are reaching out about the news around Annapurna (sorry to see what is going on to […]
Remedy has announced a new partnership with Annapurna Interactive on various projects, starting with Control 2. The sequel will be co-financed (with an even split) between the two companies, even though the IP remains in the hands of Remedy, which will be self-publishing Control 2. But the deal is also important because it aims to bring Control and Alan Wake to film and television, leveraging Annapurna's expertise in those mediums. Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment, said in a statement: At Remedy, our primary focus continues to be what we do best—crafting industry-defining video games that have earned us global […]

We’ve known since the launch of Alan Wake 2 that Remedy was preparing two pieces of story DLC for the game, but now we’ve finally laid eyes on the first expansion. Alan Wake 2: Night Springs focuses on the in-universe late night TV show Night Springs, essentially the Alan Wake version of The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and other similar shows. The first trailer for Alan Wake 2: Night Springs, revealed during the Summer Game Fest kickoff show, leaves no doubt that we’re diving even deeper down the series’ weird multimedia rabbit hole. The DLC will include three “episodes,” each […]
Today, Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment decided jointly with Tencent to cancel the cooperative multiplayer game they were developing. Originally codenamed Vanguard, the game was designed as a free-to-play live service title. The partnership with Tencent (which also owns a 14% minority stake in Remedy) was announced in late 2021, with the Chinese giant grabbing Asian publishing rights as well as a license to develop a mobile version. The game was subsequently delayed and then rebooted as Project Kestrel just six months ago, changing its business model from free-to-play to premium. However, that clearly wasn't enough to salvage the project. Remedy […]
Despite being one of the most successful games released by Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake II still hasn't recouped its expenses, according to a new financial report. In the company's financial statement for the first quarter of 2024, Remedy Entertainment confirmed how the second entry in the series, which sold 1.3 million copies as of this February, still hasn't recouped development and marketing costs. It has to be said, however, that it shouldn't be too far from doing so, as most of the investment was said to be recouped last month. One way Remedy Entertainment could increase Alan Wake II's sales […]
This morning, Finnish game developer Remedy Entertainment announced a couple of key changes to its core management team. First and foremost, Chief Operations Officer Christopher Schmitz has resigned and will leave the company on May 31. Secondly, Mikael Kasurinen has been promoted to Creative Director, sharing responsibilities in this role with Sami Järvi, more commonly known as Sam Lake. Kasurinen also joins the Remedy core management team. CEO Tero Virtala said in a statement: Christopher Schmitz has had various responsibilities during the past five years, with which he has helped in building the foundations of our multi-project model, and developing […]
Today, Remedy released its latest quarterly report for the period between October and December 2023. Despite the successful launch of Alan Wake 2, which was the fastest-selling game ever made by the studio even launching in a highly competitive release window, Q4 2023 marked a decrease in both revenue and profitability compared to 2022 due to significantly increased investments in the other game projects and to the impairment charge cost (€ -7.2 million) related to the reboot of the free-to-play Project Vanguard, from now on known as Kestrel. Still, Remedy revealed that Alan Wake 2 has now recouped most of […]
Today, Remedy announced the acquisition of the full rights to the Control franchise from publisher 505 Games for €17 million, which is basically what the publisher had paid for the development of Control 2 and codename Condor to date. 505 Games will remain the publisher of the original Control through a transition period that will end on December 31, 2024. Remedy decided to proceed with this operation to ensure better deals for future installments in the franchise. CEO Tero Virtala said: Having complete ownership over the franchise gives us the freedom to decide the best path forward. We will consider […]
Alan Wake 2 received widespread critical acclaim when it was released in late November. Our own Francesco De Meo gave it a 9/10 and said: Despite not aiming to revolutionize the survival horror genre, Alan Wake II is an amazing game that no one who enjoys a good trippy horror story should pass on. Remedy Entertainment really outdid themselves, releasing their best game to date and one of the most immersive gaming experiences of the past few years. Remedy's latest game also earned various awards, including Wccftech's for Best Horror Game of 2023 as voted by our staff and community. […]
As spotted by Twitter user @usemyhandle, Rockstar and Remedy have apparently entered into a trademark dispute over Remedy's new logo. The Finnish game development studio switched its logo for the first time in twenty years in April 2023. At the time, Remedy explained: Creating a new logo and a refreshed visual identity for Remedy was an emotional journey, like anything to do with art. For longtime Remedy followers, you surely know how vital artistic direction is for us. Not just in our games but from the standpoint of how our studio identity looks. Not to mention our hoodies! As a […]
