GSC Game World has announced that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has officially gone gold. This means the game is done, and a master copy has been sent for mass production (the game will be released on physical discs for Xbox, in addition to digital). In theory, this means no more delays are in order, although there's a famous precedent: CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk 2077, which was confirmed to have gone gold on October 5, 2020, ahead of its planned November 19, 2020 launch date. However, on October 27, the Polish developer was forced to announce a short delay to […]
We won’t belabor the point because if you’re a normal person with normal mutuals, chances are your timeline is already doing that—this week sucked, and so will the next four years.Read more...
One of the big stories of the past year has been the collapse of Embracer Group, as the failure to secure a major $2 billion investment resulted in the company cutting loose several major studios, either by selling or shuttering them, and laying off 1,400 employees. One of the studios Embracer let go of was Saber Interactive, which was sold to new company Beacon Interactive for a relatively meager $247 million (Embracer originally paid $525 million for them). You’d think the head of Saber might be bitter about this, but instead the company’s founder Matthew Karch is still singing Embracer’s […]
A lot can happen to games that get stuck in development limbo. They can get passed around like a hot potato, stopped and restarted several times, and even canceled. Saber Interactive’s Knights of the Old Republic remake has experienced many of these tr...

Saber Interactive is officially splitting from Embracer Group, bringing a few more studios formerly owned by the Swedish company with it as well. As reported yesterday, Embracer Group confirmed it has agreed to sell Saber Interactive to Beacon Interactive, a company owned by Saber's co-founder Matthew Karch, for $247 million. As such, Embracer officially ceases all operations in Russia, improving the company's cash flow and reducing future liabilities. Saber will keep multiple subsidiary studios, including 3D Realms, DIGIC, Fractured Bytes, Mad Head Games, New World Interactive, Nimble Giant Entertainment, Sandbox Strategies, and Slipgate Ironworks. Saber is also granted the right […]
Embracer Group gobbled up a lot of studios during its 2020-era spending spree, but perhaps the biggest acquisitions were Saber Interactive (World War Z, many, many ports) and Gearbox Software (Borderlands). It’s clear Embracer had big plans for Saber and Gearbox, as both were spun into entire company divisions with other smaller studios reporting to them, but those plans have changed – Embracer’s fortunes took a turn when a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia fell through and the company has been desperately cutting costs since. Apparently, this means two of their crown jewels have to go. According to Bloomberg’s […]
Embracer bought Borderlands maker Gearbox Entertainment for $1.3 billion back in early 2021 amid an unprecedented acquisition spree that’s since turned into a financial disaster. Now, just three years later, Kotaku has learned that Gearbox is closer th...
Warhorse Studios has confirmed the arrival of the Kingdom Come Deliverance Switch version in early 2024. Ever since the release of the open-world RPG in 2018, fans have been asking for a Switch port of the game. Back in 2021, after various rumors, developer Warhorse Studios announced that the title would indeed be coming to Nintendo's hybrid platform. A release date, however, wasn't shared. Fast forward two years and the Czech video game developer has now confirmed that the game, which is being ported by porting wizards Saber Interactive, is arriving on the Switch in early 2024 in the form […]
According to renowned journalist Jason Schreier, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is still being worked on. Some days ago we reported that development on the highly-anticipated remake of the 2003 class has stopped. Embracer's CEO declined to comment on the matter, and Jeff Grubb recently claimed that no team is currently working on the title. "To clear it up, this game is not being worked on right now", Grubb said in his latest Game Mess Mornings live stream. "Just full stop, this game is not being worked on in any way at any studio. [...] I've […]
