Apple is increasingly focusing on building its own devices and expanding its ecosystem by taking steps towards a more native experience for users and relying less on third-party accessories. While the Cupertino-based tech giant's HomePod and AppleTV have left quite the mark in the smart home category, it generally relies more on outsourcing cameras and other hardware for smart homes. Now, a new report suggests that the company intends to create a fully integrated experience by developing its own smart home accessories. Gurman hints about Apple working on making smart home products like security cameras for a more integrated experience […]

It has been a very bad week for Xbox Game Studios. On Tuesday, May 7, Microsoft announced it would shut down three studios: Redfall developer Arkane Austin, Hi-Fi Rush creators Tango Gameworks, and Mighty Doom studio Alpha Dog Games. On top of this, Ro...
Earlier this week, Microsoft announced a number of their studios were being shuttered, including Arkane Austin (Prey, Redfall), Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush), and Alpha Dog Games, while Roundhouse Studios will be absorbed into ZeniMax Online Studios to work on The Elder Scrolls Online. This follows nearly 1,900 layoffs earlier in the year, largely from Microsoft’s newly-acquired Activision Blizzard teams. Unfortunately, it seems this isn’t the end of the pain. According to Bloomberg’s reliable Jason Schreier, folks across the Xbox organization have been told more cuts are on the way. It’s unclear at the moment which divisions will […]
Xbox fans and some employees were blindsided earlier this morning when Microsoft announced a number of their studios were being shuttered, including Arkane Austin (Prey, Redfall), Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush), Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studios. In the hours since then, additional rumors and details about what’s going on behind the scenes with some Xbox teams have emerged. Starting with Redfall, IGN reports that despite the game’s poor initial reception, major updates were still in the works right up until Arkane Austin's untimely demise. Reportedly, an update planned for this very month would have added the game’s […]
Today opened with rather shocking news, as Microsoft announced a number of their studios were being shuttered including Arkane Austin (Prey, Redfall), Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush), Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studios. Considering the recent success of some of these studios (Hi-Fi Rush was the most widely-acclaimed game Xbox had put out in recent years) and the general pro-developer message Phil Spencer and other Xbox execs tried to send while on their studio shopping spree over the pass few years, this has caught many off guard. Seemingly one of the people caught off guard is Dinga Bakaba, […]

The big “E3” announcement season (E3 is dead, but you know what I mean) is almost here, and Microsoft has officially staked out their spot. Taking place in early June, the Xbox Games Showcase will feature games from Microsoft’s full portfolio of developers, including “Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, Xbox Game Studios” and even some third-party publishers. Interestingly, like last year with Starfield, this will be a “double feature” with a main showcase, and a “Direct” which will dive deeper on a specific game. We’re going to be talking about games of course Tune in to the Xbox Games Showcase followed by […]

The last 10-days-or-so have been quite the roller coaster for Xbox fans. Team Green was thrown into turmoil earlier this month by rumors that everything from Starfield, to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, to even Gears of War may be going multiplatform. Granted, some of those rumors were later walked back, but still, the spectre of a third-party future for Xbox was raised. Thankfully, today Xbox leadership Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and Sarah Bond stepped up to provide some clarification on the latest episode of the Official Xbox Podcast. Ultimately, the news wasn’t quite as apocalyptic as some Xbox owners feared, but […]

Over the past week, Xbox fans have been thrown into turmoil by rumors that indicated everything from Starfield, to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, to the Gears of War franchise may jump to PlayStation and other platforms. Some leakers have since walked those rumors back, saying Starfield making the jump is unlikely, but the horse is already out of the barn and speculation about the future of Xbox is running wild. Microsoft itself hasn’t exactly doused those flames, as they haven’t stepped into deny anything, but instead promised a “business update event” for this week. “We're listening and we hear you. We've been […]
Last week the gaming world was thrown into a grade-A tizzy, when XboxEra reported the rumor that Starfield would be going to PlayStation and other platforms. In short order, rumors that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and even Gears of War were being considered for multiplatform releases began to make the rounds, raising the specter of Microsoft going fully third party. Well, we may want to slow down just a bit. Noted insider NateDrake/Nate the Hate, who has delivered accurate info numerous times in the past, was one of the first to endorse the XboxEra rumor, but it seems […]
