It has been over a year since the launch of the iPhone SE 3 and the company is expected to release its successor in the coming years. The next release will potentially come with a brand-new design with a full-screen display, resembling the iPhone XR. However, it is unclear if the device will feature Face ID in the notch or Touch ID in the Power button. While the device is expected to make a debut, the latest suggests that Apple will potentially launch the iPhone SE 4 in 2025.
iPhone SE 4 launch to take its time as Apple readies custom 5G modems
According to research notes shared by Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley, Apple will not launch its iPhone SE 4 handset next year (via MacRumors). This means that Apple will launch its budget handset in 2025 at the earliest. The handset is expected to boast an all-screen design similar to the iPhone XR with upgraded internals and camera setup. There are few details available on the design but analysts have a lot to say.
It was previously reported that the iPhone SE 4 would be the first iPhone to incorporate Apple's custom 5G modem. If the news has any heft to it, we can speculate that even the iPhone 16 models will not come with Apple's custom 5G modems. Henceroth, the company would have to rely on its existing suppliers until it transitions to its own. However, if Apple changes its plans, the company could offer the new modems on its non-SE models of the iPhone.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's custom modems for the iPhone will enter mass production in 2025. The iPhone SE 4 or the iPhone 17 series will become the first iPhone models to house a custom 5G modem. For now, the company will stick with Qualcomm to supply 5G modems for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series.
While some have argued that the iPhone SE 4 will feature an iPhone XR-like design, Ming-Chi Kuo states that the device will take design cues from the iPhone 14. He further states that the SE 4 will come with a 6.1-inch display housing Face ID in the notch up top. Since Face ID and an OLED display are part of Apple's current iPhone 14 lineup, we can also expect the price to go higher. The current model features an iPhone 6-like design with Touch ID in the Home button and the pricing starts from $449. We can expect the iPhone SE 4 to be priced at $599 for the base model.
