At yesterday's Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung finally announced the Galaxy Watch 6 and the Watch 6 Classic, and although at the time of launch, the company didn't delve much into the Exynos W930 powering the new smartwatches, the South Korean tech giant has finally broken silence on the new chipset and discussed in detail about everything is new in this chipset.

So, what is the Exynos W930 all about? Well, the company has revealed all the information that you would want to know. For starters, this new chipset powering the Galaxy Watch 6 series is fabricated on a 5nm and brings two Cortex-A55 CPUs clocked at 1.4GHz. We are told that compared to the last generation of the chipset, you are getting an 18% performance boost. The CPU is paired with an ARM Mali G-68 MP2 GPU that will handle all the graphics, and considering how it is meant for a wearable, you shouldn't expect much graphical prowess.
In addition to offering a performance boost, the Exynos W930 is cool in another aspect, as Samsung has talked about how a single chip houses the CPU, GPU, LPDDR4 RAM, and 16 gigs eMMC storage along with the power management IC. This actually helps the entirety of the package be smaller and, in some ways, lighter as well. Samsung talks about how this was done using FO-PLP and Fan-Out Panel Level Packaging) and SiP-ePoP (System-in-Package-embedded Package on Package) possible; however, this isn't the first time we have seen these packing methods used for chipsets.
The Exynos W930 present in the Galaxy Watch 6 series also packs all the modern connectivity options, including BeiDou, Galileo, GLONASS, and GPS. You are also getting a 4G LTE modem, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. The dual-core chipset comes with a separate Context Hub that handles all the tasks that don't require as much processing power.
It is more than safe to say that the Exynos W930, despite being a modest upgrade over its predecessor, is definitely something that would serve well in the latest Galaxy Watch 6 series. Sure, it is not the most powerful chip, in the first place, but then again, you have to understand that it is for smartwatches, and we don't need a super-fast or a super-powerful processor to get the job done as this one works just fine.
