The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 are going to hit the shelves in just 9 days. Both foldable phones are currently up for pre-order across the world, with Samsung hoping to sell a lot of units this year compared to last year. Even though the foldable was the star of the show, it seems like the clamshell foldable is a lot more in demand, at least in South Korea, where the phone has managed to rack up a pretty decent buzz.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 pre-sale record puts it leaps ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and there are several contributing factors to this difference
Based on a new report, the pre-sale results from South Korea show that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 occupies 70%, whereas the Galaxy Z Fold 5 only occupies the remaining 30%. Now, it might surprise some users because the latter is actually a proper foldable and commands a higher price, but there are several reasons why the share for the clamshell foldable is higher.
For starters, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has seen a stellar improvement as compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which still looks and feels like last year's foldable. The new clamshell foldable actually comes with an upgraded cover display that actually eliminates the need to unfold your phone all the time since you can use the cover screen for almost everything you need, as long as the phone supports it. Wheres the Z Fold 5 has failed to capture the attention of a lot of people, including enthusiasts because Samsung has been using the same design with minor adjustments for some time now.
Although these numbers could be worrying for some, I would not discount the Galaxy Z Fold 5 just now, the phone is an absolute powerhouse for those who want to multitask and has some stellar features and benefits over the Galaxy Z Flip 5, but at $999, the clamshell foldable is a much better deal than what the Fold 5 has to offer, and I am not really surprised that it is more in demand than its elder sibling.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 are both available for preorder in all the regions around the world. The phones are going to go on retail on 11th August, later this month. So, if you have been looking to upgrade to a new foldable, it is time to pre-order the foldable of your choice and enjoy some exciting gifts, which will vary from region to region.
I, too prefer the Galaxy Z Flip 5 over the Galaxy Z Fold 5 mainly because I don't see a point in spending $1,799 on a smartphone and because the cover display on the clamshell foldable is a lot more usable to me than the internal screen on the latter. What are your thoughts on both of the new foldable phones? Let us know in the comments below.
