Apple has a slew of 3nm chipsets that will be found in various devices, starting with the A17 Bionic for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, followed by the M3. However, to ensure that the competition does not catch up with the California-based giant for a whole year, a new rumor claims that the company has secured all of TSMC’s cutting-edge chip supply for a 12-month period.

Earlier, it was reported that Apple had reserved 90 percent of TSMC’s 3nm shipments, which may have given its competitors some wiggle room to secure the remaining wafers, assuming that the Taiwanese manufacturer would be willing the reduce the price of those chips. Now, according to Economic Daily News, Apple is rumored to have a head start by securing TSMC’s entire 3nm supply. The best part of this entire deal is that any defective wafers will not have to be paid by Apple, potentially saving it billions of dollars.
There are tons of advantages for a company that chooses to be an early adopter of a next-generation node. In addition to the A17 Bionic and M3, Apple is also said to be developing more powerful chipsets for a family of high-end Macs, the M3 Pro and M3 Max, both of which are said to launch in the middle of 2024. The 3nm Apple Silicon lineup is not yet done because we still have the M3 Ultra that may be found in a future Mac Studio and Mac Pro.
In short, Apple has a multitude of 3nm chips that have yet to be announced, and now that it has the ‘first mover’ advantage, there may be no delay with the launches. However, TSMC does have other iterations of its 3nm technology, of which N3B is said to be utilized entirely by Apple, while N3E should be available for competitors like Qualcomm, MediaTek, and others. In short, the company has the time advantage, but that window can expire before we know it.
