The HERO12 Black action camera launch could be right around the corner, according to the detailed specifications shared by one report. However, those who own the HERO11 Black may not be enticed to upgrade, thanks to the similarities between the two devices. Let us take a look at the upcoming action camera.
HERO12 Black was said to feature a 1-inch sensor, but new specifications reveal the unit will have a much smaller camera
GoPro’s upcoming flagship action camera will have a 1/1.9-inch sensor, though WinFuture reports that the HERO12 Black was supposed to have a 1-inch unit, but it appears that the company backtracked on its original plans. In still imaging, the upcoming camera can go as high as 27MP, with video recording going up to 5.3K at 60FPS. The HERO12 Black will also support HyperSmooth 6.0 to deliver improved image stabilization when recording video.
The action camera continues to feature two displays, with the primary one present at the back. The main panel measures 2.27 x 1.4 inches diagonally, but an ‘edge to edge’ display is not arriving to this model. While these specifications are largely unchanged from the HERO11 Black, the biggest improvement, according to the report, is in the battery life department.
The HERO12 Black features a 1720mAh battery that can be swapped out for another cell to get a higher runtime. With the included battery, the report states that users can get up to 70 minutes at the 5.3K resolution while recording at 60FPS. When recording at 30FPS, the HERO12 Black can record for around 90 minutes, which is 10 minutes higher than what the HERO11 Black could record before the charge ran out.
With the lowest possible setting, which is 1080p, and a framerate of 30FPS, the HERO12 Black can record for over 2.5 hours, making it 150 minutes higher than its predecessor at the same resolution and framerate. The weight of the action camera is 154 grams, and without an external waterproof housing, the HERO12 Black can function up to a depth of 10 meters. As for the pricing and launch, the HERO12 Black is said to be officially available from September 13 and will be priced at 449.99 euros, or $489.
