The Pixel 8 series is going to debut in October, later this year, and so far, we have received some interesting details about Google's upcoming flagship phones. The Pixel series has been going stellar for some time now, and this year's flagships are expected to improve upon everything that Google has been doing. We have seen leaked renders of both devices, and we even know the specs to some extent, but today's information should be taken with a grain of salt.
Google removing the SIM card slot in Pixel 8 is not a big deal
It is rumored that the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro could launch without a SIM card slot, and if that happens, it will only take place in some regions and not all. Now, this should not come as a surprise since Google is working on ways to make it easier to transfer between SIM cards, and well, iPhone 14 already doesn't have a SIM card slot in the U.S. variants.
This was spotted by Mishaal Rahman, who observed the renders shared earlier by OnLeaks. It appears that the Pixel 8 renders we have been seeing for some time do not contain a SIM card slot on the left. All the Pixel devices that have previously leaked have had the SIM card slot on the left side, so this omission does raise some eyebrows.
While this might be true, it is important to understand that CAD-based renders often don't have all the details included in them, and it could simply be an oversight. If that is the case, then we might see a SIM card slot on the Pixel 8,
Again, we cannot confirm much until we start seeing more renders appear of the Pixel 8. So you will basically have to wait and see. However, Rahman does point out that in one of the leaked videos of the device, you can see that there is a SIM card slot on the device.
The Pixel 8 series is supposed to launch in early October, and you can expect marketing material and press renders to start leaking at any date now. We will be sure to keep you posted about everything that we get our hands on.
eSIM is the way to go into the future, and the fact that more and more companies are offering this option, I don't think it will be an issue if the Pixel 8 series completely ditches the physical SIM slot. If that does happen, it will most likely be a region-specific choice as several regions still don't have eSIM offering available.
