Several reports previously claimed that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would be more expensive than the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. While a $100 price increase for both models would have been easier to stomach, an update states that the situation for customers would be even more dire, forcing them to spend more on Apple’s next flagships.
Report claims both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would be $200 more expensive than previous models
In a paywalled report published on DigiTimes, evidence that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will be more expensive is revealed in a small line stating, ‘The forthcoming iPhone models from Apple will be more costly, causing industry sources to be less optimistic about this year’s shipments.’ While this small piece of information does not reveal the whole story, iMore managed to get to the bottom of it and found out that both models will be $200 more expensive, and that is for the base storage.
This massive price hike may have been the reason why Apple informed suppliers to bring down the shipments tally from 83 million to 77 million for 2023. With this reduction, Apple may ship fewer units in the fourth quarter, but a $200 price increase in the U.S. means the technology will generate more revenue for each iPhone sold in the region. We have also not talked about how this price hike will affect consumers living in countries outside of the United States boundary, with additional taxes meaning that both models are expected to cost them more.
To be fair, Apple has kept the prices of its ‘Pro’ iPhones consistent for many years, so while many people will call out the company’s greed as the main reason for this $200 price increase, there are other factors that come into play, and that is mainly component costs, which due to inflation, have seen their prices surge. Even the A17 Bionic, which is said to be the world’s first 3nm chipset, will be more expensive to make than the $110 amount it costs Apple to make each A16 Bionic.
While we obviously wish that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were priced the same as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, our wishes alone cannot decide what retail price Apple shall determine for its flagship handsets, so just like every other consumer that wants the latest and greatest, we have to prepare our wallets.
