We have received some information that talks about how Google and Garmin could be teaming up to bring satellite-based texting to Google Messages, and the feature is going to be available in over 150 countries once it launches.
Google Messages getting satellite support in over 150 countries will put it way ahead of Apple and any other competitors
Neïl Rahmouni found some UI placeholders talking about how satellite messaging support is soon to arrive on Google Messages, and there is also evidence that suggests that Garmin is involved in this collaboration, which does make sense considering how the company excels in products that have a lot to do with satellite communication.
Looks like Google Messages may use Garmin Response for the Satellite Emergency SOS
If true it could mean that Emergency Satellite messages would be available in 150+ countrieshttps://t.co/egVqM6JaJV

The partnership would allow Google and Garmin to integrate hardware and software support, and Google Messages would become compatible with the support for satellite text messaging. Now, of course, we still don't know when the feature is going to start rolling out to the masses, but considering how Android 14 is just around the corner, you can expect Google to officially announce the new features once Android 14 is all out.
This partnership is going to be impressive, considering how Garmin emergency SOS satellite services are available in over 150 countries, covering all seven continents. If this does go through, Google Messages could become a very powerful messaging service, a lot more when compared to its contemporaries.
Whatever the case might be, it is better that we don't get our hopes up high. It is true that Google Messages will indeed get the features that we are talking about, but we don't know when that is going to happen. The safest bet is that this will become public with the release of Android 14, and hopefully, the upcoming Pixel 8 devices will have some sort of satellite communication feature in them, as well.
As always, you can expect more details on Android and what Google is cooking with Google Messages in the coming days, and we will keep you posted if we find more information. Until then, stay tuned.
