The Galaxy S24 launch happening in early 2024 will not be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-only affair, as Samsung has been reported to ramp up Exynos 2400 production using its 4nm architecture. Now, its launch timeline has been specified in the latest report, stating that the SoC will be unveiled in Q4 2023. However, Samsung could be using its in-house chipset in a limited capacity, signifying the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s superiority.

A post from TrendForce says that Samsung has ‘restarted its in-house AP design project,’ which may give the impression that the company is working on its custom cores to rival Apple’s, but that is not the case, as the report is referring to the Exynos 2400. On previous occasions, Samsung has always unveiled the chipset first, as was the case with the Exynos 2200, and with TrendForce now mentioning a Q4 2023 release, we will likely come across a press release before the end of this year.
Despite the fact that the Exynos 2400 version of the Galaxy S24 is said to be sold in Europe and some parts of Asia and may even be found in variants sold in South Korea, which is Samsung’s home market, the report states that the SoC will be integrated to those smartphones in a limited capacity. This statement may imply that while Samsung does not intend to launch the Galaxy S24 with a single chipset configuration, the Exynos 2400 might not be found in as many regions as previously anticipated.

Perhaps Samsung wishes to intentionally keep the launch of the Exynos 2400 limited to not anger its customer base, as taking unnecessary risks would mean even more people may be discouraged from picking up any of the flagship models. Samsung has already been reported to reduce its smartphone production to 220 million units for 2023, and it risks losing its top position to Apple.
Launching the Exynos 2400 in more regions may only add fuel to the fire, so for now, Samsung will have to pay Qualcomm the Snapdragon premium and treat its upcoming models with the very best. However, this might not remain a permanent arrangement as the Exynos 2500 might finally be the big break the company was hoping for, but only time will tell if it invested its resources and manpower correctly.
