Earlier today, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro were stopped by FCC and received certification. Now, both phones are going official next month, as Google has already started sending out the invites, but the FCC filing has revealed some interesting details about the upcoming devices.
Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro should provide better network performance thanks to Wi-Fi 7
Based on some information, it turns out that both Pixel 8 devices support the latest Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be). This is the latest Wi-Fi version, which is now making its way to the Pixel device. Do note that this is not the first time that we are seeing Wi-Fi 7 in phones because a lot of other phones already offer this, but it is nice to see that Google is adding the latest standard.
The FCC filings for the Google Pixel 8 series went public the other day, and as Reddit user Starks points out, it seems both devices may support Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be).@Za_Raczke previously reported both devices will use Broadcom's BCM4389 chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, so this… https://t.co/v2yIeG4JXw pic.twitter.com/BSEqjOEQsj

Now, it might not look like a big thing, but Wi-Fi 7 on Pixel 8 devices means that the new phones are going to perform better as the new standard provides up to four times faster speeds, reduced latency, increased efficiency, and stability. This might not mean much to a lot of people, but for network nerds, this means that getting their hands on the latest standard is always a good thing.
Considering how Wi-Fi 7 can actually deliver better streaming quality and cloud gaming, this is another thing that Pixel 8 users will be able to benefit from. Not to forget, better network fidelity is going to be helpful with tasks such as AR and VR, so if you have been looking at those tasks, the new phones are going to be perfect for you.
Sadly, the FCC filing has also revealed that only the Pixel 8 Pro comes with UWB, and while this might not make a big deal, this could be an issue for those who are looking to get the base variant and want to make use of the new smart trackers that should be available for purchase in the market. Whatever the case might be, Google should have added UWB to both devices, considering how common that feature has become.
For those waiting, the Pixel 8 phones are going official on 4th October at the Made by Google event. You can expect a lot more information coming out in the weeks leading up to the official announcement, and we will be sure to keep you posted about everything we learn.
