The Xperia 5 is the more affordable lineup that the company has to offer, and today, Sony has unveiled the Xperia 5 V, its latest device to hit the market. It does share some of its DNA with the Sony Xperia 1, but it is still an impressive device.

Now, the Sony Xperia 5 V is for those who are not looking to buy the more expensive model from the 1 lineup, and there is nothing wrong with it. The phone still brings a number of improvements, and legendary Sony build quality and features.
Now, the Sony Xperia 5 V does pack the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and comes with 8 gigs of RAM and 128 gigs of storage. Don't worry; you can expand the storage with a microSD card slot, a feature that we don't see often in the market. On the front, you get a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. Sony has decided to stick with a 21:9 aspect ratio, allowing the user to have an easier time pocketing the device.

The biggest upgrade that the phone gets is in terms of the camera, as the Sony Xperia 5 V comes with a 52-megapixel primary Exmor T camera, it's a 1/1.35-inch sensor with OIS, and an effective resolution of 48-megapixel. Handling the ultra-wide duties is a 12-megapixel camera, and there is no telephoto camera on the back, but Sony has claimed that the primary camera can offer you 2x zoom. On the front, there is a respectable 12-megapixel camera.
Of course, it won't be a Sony phone, and that is why the Xperia 5 V is getting all the software features that you would expect from a Sony phone, so if you want to be sure that your photography and videography are not going to fall behind.
Although the Sony Xperia 5 V looks like an excellent device, if you are wondering whether it will deliver on the software front, that is not the case. The phone runs Android 13 atop Sony's custom skin, but Sony only promises two major Android updates, which honestly is not enough for a phone that is going to cost around $1,000 when it is finally available in the market.
The Sony Xperia 5 V gets a lot of things right, but at the same time, it does leave a lot to be desired for, especially in a landscape where companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google are trying to ensure that their phones last as long as they can in terms of having the latest software.
