Apple was previously reported to introduce a redesigned Magic Keyboard that would sport a bigger trackpad to make tracking a lot less painful. However, according to a new report, that same accessory is now said to feature an aluminum deck, upgrading its build quality substantially.
Entire Magic Keyboard will not be made of aluminum, but only the area surrounding the keys
The revamped Magic Keyboard’s aluminum deck will make the accessory sturdier than previous models, according to Supercharged, who spotted Mark Gurman’s ‘Power On’ newsletter. The design change will be similar to the trackpads present on the MacBook line, and a bigger size means it will make navigating the iPad Pro a breeze. Also, just like the MacBook family, Apple could incorporate a glass surface, making the tracking experience an ‘A+’ one.
However, the entire Magic Keyboard will not be made of aluminum, as Apple would be aiming to keep the weight down. Instead, Gurman states that the area surrounding the keys will be made up of this material, making the accessory less likely to wear and tear. Unfortunately, as much as a Magic Keyboard with an upgraded build quality is welcomed, customers will probably have to pay more to purchase it.
Since aluminum is costlier than polyurethane, the material change paired with the revamped design may give Apple an excuse to charge customers more than the $299 amount it costs to acquire a current-generation Magic Keyboard. Gurman did not highlight the extra features that could be baked into the larger trackpad of the upcoming accessory, but with a larger size, we expect the new iPad Pro to support newer features that help it provide a similar experience to macOS.
It is likely that Apple will continue to limit iPadOS to make its Macs a more attractive proposition, but with the arrival of the redesigned Magic Keyboard, we should get more productivity-focused features too. The new iPad Pro models with the OLED and M3 upgrades are expected to arrive next year, so we will see what new changes are done with the forthcoming keyboard.
