The Apple Vision Pro reveal has forced several direct competitors to commence development of their own premium AR headsets, including Meta. The company is rumored to have partnered with LG to launch a high-end mixed-reality device in 2025, with its pricing said to be lower than the $3,499 amount of Apple’s first-generation product.
New Apple Vision Pro competitor reportedly named Meta Quest 4 Pro
Meta’s premium AR headsets are reported to feature the ‘Pro’ moniker, with the official name of the device said to be Quest 4 Pro, according to the Korean outlet Maekyung. The partnership between Meta and LG likely formed after the unveiling of the Apple Vision Pro, with even Samsung reportedly discarding its previous prototype to work on something that is more akin to Apple’s offering in terms of design and features set.
However, before the Quest 4 Pro arrives in a couple of years, Meta intends to target the price-sensitive market first. The report states that a low-cost model for under $200 will be released in 2024, followed by the Quest 4 Pro in 2025 for an undisclosed retail price. However, NH Investment & Securities has weighed in on the Apple Vision Pro competitors, talking about Samsung and the possibility that Meta and LG will release a premium AR headset for around $2,000.
“Samsung Electronics is likely to position its product between Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta Quest. The hardware is expected to be premium like Apple’s, but the price will be lower than Apple’s to make it more accessible to the general public. There is a possibility that it will be lowered.”
As for what LG’s role in all of this is, the Korean firm applied for a patent related to a mixed-reality headset back in 2019 and has been focused on research and development. It is unclear if the patent is somehow related to the unreleased premium AR headset from Meta, but we still have a couple of years to find out what their latest alliance materialized.
