Apple is rumored to gravitate from mini-LED to OLED technology for the first time in 2024 for the new iPad Pro series, but that is not the only upgrade that the company is said to bring next year. Those top-end tablets may also offer a 4TB storage version, but it is likely that this variant will be targeted to an incredibly small customer base.
Current-generation iPad Pro models can be kitted out with up to 2TB storage for an insane premium
Apple currently offers 2TB versions for its 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models, with Revengus stating on X that, according to unnamed sources, the OLED version may have a 4TB storage option. Upgrading from 128GB on the latest versions to 2TB of internal memory is a hefty $1,100 premium, so it will not be surprising to see Apple demand customers to fork over more to get double the maximum storage. Add cellular connectivity into the mix, and you are looking at a total that has pretty much entered MacBook Pro territory in terms of pricing.
With the OLED iPad Pro models said to be treated to the same M3 chip as some Macs later this year, it is safe to assume that these devices will be packing quite the punch when it comes to a performance and power-efficiency pairing. Even the M2 versions are plentiful for the majority of users and will serve as attractive purchases when those iPad Pro models get discounted as the OLED lineup comes forth. However, Apple continues to limit iPadOS, so a 4TB model will only appear attractive to those who deal with copious amounts of storage and want something thinner and lighter than a portable Mac.

The technology giant recently introduced Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for the iPad, with the M2 versions getting treated to some exclusive features, so the effort to bring apps that can take advantage of its highly capable custom chipsets is there, but the workflow also needs to be seamless. For instance, macOS still inhibits the convenient transfer of data when connecting an external USB-C drive, so this lack of flexibility will make the company’s Macs appear more attractive from a utilitarian standpoint.
Also, we believe that the 4TB variants of the OLED iPad Pro lineup will be mass produced in extremely limited quantities since the customer base may be negligible for these tablets. Just like on previous occasions, Apple can incorporate more RAM with those higher storage parts, making consumers feel that they may be getting more for their investment, with a chance to introduce a 24GB RAM model too. However, since this is just a rumor, we should treat it as such and await future updates.
