There's no denying that Android smartphones have come a long, long way. We are getting excellent cameras, top of the line processors, bigger batteries, and better materials, but it appears that some companies are more interested in adding more RAM to their smartphones. Recently, we saw the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro with 24 gigs of RAM, and I thought to myself that this has more RAM than my PC and my laptop. Now, a reliable tip suggests that companies are not planning on stopping, as 32 gigs of RAM are currently being tested.
32GB RAM in an Android smartphone doesn't make sense, but it could have something to do with native LLM support
Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station has mentioned that 32 gigs of RAM is currently being tested, and we all know that this is not going to be an iPhone, so the most obvious guess is an Android device. It is also safe to say that it is going to be one of the Chinese devices since those are the devices that offer the most bonkers specifications.
Honestly, there is nothing wrong with having more RAM on your computer, but why would you need to have 32 gigs of RAM on your Android device in the first place? I have a Galaxy S22 Ultra with 12 gigs of RAM, and I never really felt that my device needs to have more RAM. So, by this comparison, 32 gigs does seem like a lot.
Thankfully, there seems to be some explanation as to why we are getting smartphones with a lot of RAM as it appears that LLM (Large Language Models) do, in fact, require a good chunk of RAM to be available, and considering how we are going to start seeing on-device AI starting later this year, or early next year, it makes sense as to why companies are adding this much RAM. But at the same time, we have not seen many other mainstream Android manufacturers doing that, so it still hangs with a question mark as to why smartphones are suddenly featuring so much RAM.
With that said, it is going to take some time before we finally figure out which Android manufacturer will be launching a device with 32 gigs of RAM in the market and whether or not other companies will follow. Be sure to stay tuned and let us know if you would like to see that much RAM in a smartphone.
