The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are set to be officially released in October, but on Google’s Pixel Simulator website, the company accidentally leaked the top-tier flagship’s design, the three finishes that will be available to customers, and a myriad of specifications and other features. Though the company has removed those details, it was a little too late for the advertising giant as a bulk of information is now circulating the web.
More details reveal the Pixel 8 Pro will have a SIM card tray and an mmWave 5G modem
Let us start with the three finishes first. M. Brandon Lee, with the handle @thisistechtoday, posted on X that the Pixel 8 Pro will be available in Licorice, Porcelain, and Sky. That was not all the information posted because the Pixel Simulator website also focused on the flagship’s features and specifications, including a body temperature sensor placed close to the rear camera array.
Of course, the upcoming smartphone model will also ship with a SIM card tray, burying all rumors that Google is switching to eSIM-only versions of the Pixel 8 Pro. From the images, we also noticed that the company’s top-end offering features top and bottom-firing speakers, delivering an immersive audio experience for those who wish to listen without headphones or earphones.
The Pixel 8 Pro is also said to ship with a telephoto lens with a 5x zoom, though the features section does not specify if ‘5x’ is lossless zoom or a combination of optical and digital zoom. Other additions such as NFC, mmWave antenna cover, and several microphones will find their way to the flagship.
Overall, the Pixel 8 Pro is expected to be Google’s most feature-enriched offering to-date, and with this massive leak arriving before the iPhone 15 event, it might change the perspective of potential buyers who were preparing their wallets to upgrade to one of Apple’s devices. According to various posts, Google is said to ditch curved displays for flat ones with symmetrical bezels, taking a page out of Apple’s book and likely making it easier to grip the Pixel 8 Pro.
Unfortunately, the Pixel Simulator website did not provide details on the Tensor G3 SoC that will be fueling both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Luckily, we got a hold of that information way before this leak came forth, revealing that the Tensor G3 will feature a 9-core CPU cluster with various improvements and upgrades. Assuming this is not the last of Google’s mistakes when it comes to product leaking, we will update our readers on more details soon.
